I have 2 DS's. Ds2 is called Freddie (or fred generally)...you can see what coming can't you .
AM pg with DC3 and found out at scan last week that it is a girl....I love the name florence, but DH pointed out we will have Florence and Fred.....i.e. tesco clothing range.
Would this put you off? I thought most people wouldn't think of it, but DH is against the name now.

I wouldn't tbh - shame though, it is a beautiful name

Anglepoise · 20/07/2008 23:36

Doh, I was coming in to suggest Flora!

egypt · 21/07/2008 02:10

well, i went into tescos almost eveyday for about 4 years, bought their clothing range and NEVER knew what the F&F stood for!

Given that you already have the Fred, the words would be the other way around. I have a Bob (the builder) and I know simply loads of Thomas (the Tank Engine) and George.

My mum and dad are a newsreader if you put them together - but nobody ever does.

constancereader · 21/07/2008 05:18

lol at this thread as have gone through exactly the same. I ruled it out though.

BroodyBroodyBroody · 21/07/2008 21:23

What about Flora instead?

booge · 21/07/2008 21:40

I looked after a couple of children called Harry and Molly back when there was a Harry and Molly in the Safeway advert. The Mum was mortified that they had chosen the same names but now I doubt anyone thinks of the ad any more.

norkmaiden · 21/07/2008 21:42

I'd do it - not a problem imo

Flora is pretty though

ilovemydog · 21/07/2008 21:44

Sienna?

ShinyPinkShoes · 21/07/2008 21:46

Someone I know has twin brothers called Mark and Spencer

juneybean · 21/07/2008 21:47

I think it'd be OK if you always introduced Fred first :P

2littlehorrors · 21/07/2008 21:50

I would never have made the Tesco connection and anyway, who cares about everyone else. If you like the name then go for it. Florence is a lovely name.

LuP · 22/07/2008 14:26

I'm really sorry to be vulgar and I love the name Flora but as my DH pointed out, no-one is crueller than schoolchildren when it comes to names and do you remember the Flora advertising campaign?

Flora - spreads easily

I know it's unlikely but I wouldn't want anyone saying that about my DD in the playground!

SoupKitchen · 22/07/2008 14:45

My cousins children are freddie and Flo, they are beautiful children with beautiful names.
Go for it.

FluffyWuffy · 23/07/2008 10:57

My honest opinion is that I think I'd be a bit put off - how about Florence as a middle name? I was on holiday once and someone had called her kids 'Meg' and 'Ryan'...obviously you'd never name your kids after Tescos but I can't help but think it's always going to have that connection...?

TinkerBellesMum · 23/07/2008 11:00

Lowri Turner was just saying that she once met two boys with the surname "Bank" their parents had called them "Lloyd" and "Barclay"

iwouldgoouttonight · 23/07/2008 11:14

I have an Uncle Fred and Auntie Flo and until reading this thread it had never occured to me that they have the same names as the Tesco clothes.

Or that my aunt has the same name as a period. Bloody mumsnet!!

If you have two DSs already you probably wouldn't just say Fred and Florence on their own - it would be DS1, Fred and Florence so maybe people wouldn't notice?

Having said that I have a George so I am clearly keen on naming children after clothing ranges! Saves me having to sew his name into his clothes.

clairebear88 · 23/07/2008 15:25

Hi

I love both names but I personally wouldnt do it as there will always be someone who thinks its funny to mention it.
There are so many lovely names that would go with Freddy I personally like Freya if you want to carry on the F theme

Up to you though...

bigcar · 24/07/2008 12:24

But surely you have 3 dcs so it would be ds1, Fred and Florence. Love the name, go for it.

colacubes · 24/07/2008 12:30

Why not, by the time they are old enough to care, tesco will have re branded it anyway, and if you like the name then you should have it. i worked with a guy whos kids were called laura & Ashley, he swears he didnt realise until he shouted their names in the park!

LilRedWG · 24/07/2008 12:31

We know a Freddie and Florence - most people take the piss behind their parents' back. Sad, but true.

maretta · 24/07/2008 12:47

OF COURSE YOU CAN.

Really do you think teh clothing label will last even till there 5.

I think you'd regret it if you didn't.

QuintessentialShadows · 24/07/2008 12:52

If you are lucky, you wont know anybody who shops in Tesco so they will never know....

Seriously. They are lovely names. Who cares?

I have a photo of me and George Michael in Asda, next to the clothes.

We have a saying in Norway "The NAME does not shame the child". Meaning, the name does not matter. The child does. And soon the child grows into the name and will BE that name. And no matter how "bad" or infamous the name, it wont matter as it is NOT associated with the child just by sharing the same name. Gosh how longwinded that became...

madm00se · 24/07/2008 14:56

I thinks it's fine, I would, (DH's mate's middle names are John Thomas!!)
