I have 2 DS's. Ds2 is called Freddie (or fred generally)...you can see what coming can't you .
AM pg with DC3 and found out at scan last week that it is a girl....I love the name florence, but DH pointed out we will have Florence and Fred.....i.e. tesco clothing range.
Would this put you off? I thought most people wouldn't think of it, but DH is against the name now.

mabel1973 · 16/07/2008 11:20

that's how i see it wendy...fred came 1st so would be referred to 1st, Florence would prob become Florrie/flossie anyway....

DH's cousin has called her children this and they are gorgeous children with gorgeous names - go for it!

eandh · 16/07/2008 11:26

Or go for a variation - friends dd is Floella

Spink · 16/07/2008 11:44

Go for it, it's not that well known a brand, and the names are lovely.
Our ds is Frank and I'm pg, if we have a girl we like Nancy.. then we noticed the Sinatra thing & we're reconsidering.... but I'm beginning to think WHO CARES, it's not like sibs will always be introduced together and other than on those occasions, it won't be noticeable (she says, hopefully)

mabel1973 · 16/07/2008 11:55

spink i love Nancy!

I know a florence with a little brother called Freddie. She's usually called Flo though.

pointydog · 16/07/2008 12:01

No, don't call your children florence and fred. Terrible idea.

Spink · 16/07/2008 12:12

Thanks Mabel

QOD · 16/07/2008 12:18

my friends (they are sisters) have a Jake and a Bella.........born and named JUST before the Tweenies came out

Remotew · 16/07/2008 12:36

Go for it. I'd never even heard of this clothing line as I never go into tesco's, but I suspect there arn't many of us.

I has an aunt florence. My dad was Stanley. Glad these names are all coming back.

FAQ · 16/07/2008 12:38

I know someone who has both a Sam and an Ella - but they have a Lydia in between

CharlotteYork · 16/07/2008 15:12

Don't worry about it the brand is unlikely to stand the test of time - not like having a Mark and a Spencer!

Ceelo · 16/07/2008 23:06

what about Flora instead. i love that name but i am having a boy. oh god that is a brand of margerine ...is it still? i haven't lived in the UK for 10 years....ok what else is close o Florence?

Flibbertyjibbet · 16/07/2008 23:12

vbacqueen1 you will have to explain what you were wetting your pants about. I'm from deepest lancashire and can only come up with Jack Daniels for the name and have no idea what cockney rhyming slang you might be thinking of!

edam · 16/07/2008 23:15

Go ahead! I didn't even know Tesco's clothes were F&F and they will probably change the label before little Flo learns to speak anyway. The big brand is Tesco, not Florence and Fred.

Frizbe · 16/07/2008 23:19

Felicity? Fiona?

Oh no stuff it go for Gertrude instead.

ninah · 16/07/2008 23:21

Do it!

Kelix · 16/07/2008 23:40

Go for it! People wont realise, I didnt until it was pointed out.

I know a girl who called her baby 'Nike Jordan'

singersgirl · 16/07/2008 23:53

I've never heard of the clothing line. Is it widely advertised? I've never seen it on TV or in the papers etc, and I don't have a big Tesco near here.

Fred and Florence are great names. Don't worry about it.

GivePeasAChance · 16/07/2008 23:55

Max and Spencer for boys?

Max and Spencer for boys?

LuLuBai · 17/07/2008 10:40

I don't own any F&F clothes or ever shop in Tesco (I'm more of a George girl) but the brand is extremely well known. It gets written up in all the fashion press all the time as well as the business press for being such a successfull supermarket off-shoot. I would definitely avoid this combo.

serin · 19/07/2008 23:08

We have friends from Finland who named their baby "Tu".......Will be delighted to get clothes with his name already sewn in.

kitsmummy · 20/07/2008 21:11

Aaah, sorry, I don't think you can call the DD Florence, although it is gorgeous. What about Flora instead?
