Name for girl twin which doesn't end in vowel or start with E or F!

It's very difficult finding a girl's name that fits with our surname which starts with E and ends with son so out so anything like Madison. I've discovered that anything with a vowel or y on the end sounds rubbish e.g. Lily, Anna.

I like Iris and Maeve, but dp doesn't. We've only agreed I think on Erin and Elise but don't want another E name as ds2's starts with E and I don't think it sounds that great with our surname. DS1's name starts with F and we've already chosen boy twin's name starting with F so don't want another.

I have read through 14,000 name book already and am wondering if we'll have a name for her esp if they arrive early. Any ideas given my very restrictive request?? Pretty please? I had already posted on here about celtic names for them both but had to give that up as dp didn't like anything I did!

Dd is Erin, so it's top of my list. Elise also lovely.

Actually, aq, I think Harriet probably goes really well with that group of names.

I'm sorry, I just had a really silly idea - what about Catherine, Cat for short - then you have twins Felix and Cat! sorry

OK, maybe it would be a bit too radical to change your surname too... We had a similar problem as we wanted a girl's name that didn't end in a vowel as my surname starts with an e, and there were also others that would have been ridiculous with the surname, particularly for ds (can't explain properly without saying the surname). Afterwards we did regret a bit that we'd not thought of all reverting to my MIL's maiden name as it's very unusual and would have given us a lot more scope for first names.

I've had another thought: what about Alex? It's a pretty but traditional name, and it would go well with Felix. Or have Alex for the boy and change the girl to Felicity?

Am I right inn thinking you wanted a flower name or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

accessorizequeen · 14/07/2008 07:05

I think dp would really like Felix and Cat, thumbwitch, would appeal to his sense of humour! Perhaps I should reconsider Harriet but I don't think I'm going to love it! Same with Alex, it's too unisex for me really. I want girly!

Imogen is lovely, but doesn't sit well with the 'son at the end of our long surname.

I do very much like flower names, but I'm getting the impression dp doesn't as he's nixed them all.

must stick him in front of this tonight.

If you do go for Alexandra, there are lots of different diminuitives for it, including Sasha, Zandra, Ali, Sandy, Alexa, but Ihave jsut seen the problem with all of these is that they either end in -y or -a sounds! Ah well.

What abou Clover?

Had another one for you, accessorize. Not sure if it's come up on this thread, but I like this name too...Lois. (And it might be traditional enough for your dh!). Did you think about Charlotte. I can't have that, because we had a cat called Charlotte/ Charlie for 18 years! (so the name is now established in our family as a cat's name) but I like that too.

MerryMarigold · 14/07/2008 10:19

Just seen Lois mentioned above, Really don't like Felix and Harriet (togehter...I love Felix!). I think Felix is quite a funky name, whilst being traditional (the 'x' is so cool). How about Sylvie?

thumbwitch · 14/07/2008 10:28

bit of a leap from the flower name thing - Saffron? (comes from the crocus - trying to think laterally here for you )

also just realised, you couldn't really want Felix and Alex together, could you?

Have suggested this on another thread as well - Mignon(ne)? A bit French maybe, quite flowery (mignonette), means sweet. Or Giselle? v.feminine.

Ariel?
