I love this name and having been fighting against it but it's the only name i've liked constantly - is it a silly name?

I wanted it for dd but we already have one in the family so I couldnt

I love it

Hulababy · 09/07/2008 20:30

I love the name. Very pretty and not too popular. Definitely not silly.

Bertolli · 09/07/2008 20:31

it's very pretty

Evelynsmum · 09/07/2008 20:32

I love Poppy, beautiful flower and not too cutsey.

Swedes · 09/07/2008 20:33

But don't give her the middle name Cherry.

unfitmother · 09/07/2008 20:34

I like it

BigBadMousey · 09/07/2008 20:35

DazedEmma · 09/07/2008 20:35

Hope not because thats what my daughter is called

chutneymary · 09/07/2008 20:39

Really liked it for DD2 but was concerned about how it would stand up as a grown up name. I wouldn't want to do my job (stuffy and boring lawyer) with a name which I associate as suiting little girls. HOWEVER, the compromise we would have gone for was Phillipa on the birth cert, but known as Poppy.

In the end, she didn't look like a poppy so we went for Matilda.

DazedEmma · 09/07/2008 20:41

matilda is such a lovely name but in AN class there are 3 woman who are calling their babies matilda/tilly.

cher it is. If I could turn back t'owwwm

Not silly at all - my dd is a beautiful Poppy

chutneymary · 09/07/2008 20:43

Don't think it's remotely silly BTW, just quite little girl. Does it pass the name test for you ie

"This is your Captain, Poppy Smith, speaking"

"Hello, I'm Dr Poppy Smith and I'll be doing your brain surgery today"

"Hello I'm Poppy Smith and I'll be cutting your hair this afternoon"

" I love you, Poppy"

If it does and you like it = go for it!

chutneymary · 09/07/2008 20:43

OH I know, they are rife round here too.

janeite · 09/07/2008 20:44

Love it.

vanloadtovenice · 09/07/2008 20:47

Poppy is popular here. I like it, but it's very girly indeed. What about a more unusual flower name like Violet or Peony?

callmeovercautious · 09/07/2008 20:47

We also considered Poppy - for about 3 years whilst considering a family and then 2 years of TTC our first Daughter was definately going to be Poppy. Then she appeared and pretty much the first thing I said was "OMG, she is not a Poppy". She is now Isabelle - after about 3 days of having no name

emiliadaniel · 09/07/2008 21:28

It is very much a little girl's name, rather than one for a grown woman, to me.

beansprout · 09/07/2008 21:30

It's a great name for a little girl but is it going to suit the chair of the board?

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/07/2008 21:35

Very pretty, but very very popular round here.

Hulababy · 09/07/2008 21:40

All names will eventually work as both children's and adult's names. The child will gro into their name and when they are an adult - everyone will just be used to it.

In the past our parents and grandparents would have had similar thoughts about names we now feel are very much the norm.

Pavlovthecat · 09/07/2008 21:42

Love it. We wanted this for DD but it sounded very daft with our surname! I was so upset I almost considered given DD my maiden name (not married when she was born) just so she could be called it! Did not go down to well with now DH, esp as we were already engaged so never going to keep my surname!

Its a wonderfully feminine but not to baby-ish.
