I like Jack, Alex and Max.

Other ideas...
Jake
Zac
Theo

YouCantFindMeIfImHiding · 05/07/2008 15:14

Thanks, can't have Jake or Zac, not too keen on Theo, we already have a DD with a name starting Th, it is too similar to Theo to pull it off!

Anymore ideas? (DH is being very difficult over this!)

Like Alex, Seth and Aled

Twelvelegs · 05/07/2008 15:15

Seth, my favourite.

Collision · 05/07/2008 15:16

Ned
Finn
Zeb

I have a Max and I still love the name.

YouCantFindMeIfImHiding · 05/07/2008 15:20

Oh I like Ned

DH says they are all old man names I know they are a little old man-ish, but I don't like the more ermmmmm... modern names.

(Did I cover my arse enough then? )

Collision · 05/07/2008 15:25

I love Ned but couldnt have it as our surname begins with N.

Tell your DH he has no taste but I will let him have Max if he likes it!

Takver · 05/07/2008 15:32

Seth - a bit Cold Comfort Farm?
Aled - makes me think of Jones, but not likely to be a problem by the time your DS is old enough to care.
All the others very nice.
What about Kit? Short & classic (and romantic!)

YouCantFindMeIfImHiding · 05/07/2008 15:38

Can't have Kit due to surname, it is the sort of name I like though.

OP posts:
Takver · 05/07/2008 15:41

What about Kester, also an old English shortening of Christopher?
No help if Kit doesn't go, but I also know a Kett, named after the leader of the Kett rebellion against enclosures in the 1500s, which I think is a pretty cool name.

greenelizabeth · 05/07/2008 18:12

hmm they've all been done, so many times.

Jack - what about Gus
Seth - What about Saul
Seb(astian) - Waht about Greg(ory)
Aled - interesting. Don't know any. Jared also.
Alex - ok.
Max - Rex, Bruce

Does it have to be a one syllable name?

greenelizabeth · 05/07/2008 18:13

I like Ted. Also Guy.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 05/07/2008 18:13

James

Takver · 05/07/2008 19:20

Does it matter if it is a common name? DH & I both have names that have been in the top 100 every year since the year dot (there were 6 of us with us out of 15 girls in my primary school class). Personally I like that - it means no-one can judge you by your name.
So I would just pick the name you like best and not care at all about how common it is.

MakemineaGandT · 05/07/2008 19:46

nice.

also, what about Alec?

Bertolli · 05/07/2008 19:51

Seb

lilolilmanchester · 05/07/2008 19:53

I don't dislike any of them, although I could never hear "Seth" without thinking of the old guy in Emmerdale.

Looking at others' suggestions, I like Greg (would ahve used it for DS if DH had like it); Gus; Ted.

ScottishMummy · 05/07/2008 21:39

LOL you may wish to reconsider Ned Ned is a popular derogatory colloquialism. frankly call your child Ned in Scotland and you are asking for derision and laughter

have a lookey at

No, the name doesn't have to be one syllable.

I haven't got a dislike for 'common' names (both my boys are very much in the top 100, and have already been mentioned on this thread!) but I don't like modern (i.e. made up names Haydon, Kaydon, Jaydon, etc.) Much prefer traditional - yes DH - "old man" names.

ScottishMummy, we're not in Scotland, and I'm sure there a few names that mean one thing somewhere, and a completely different thing somewhere else.

Dh is liking Ned, which is surprising, but it is on the 'definately maybe' list!

I am liking Ted as well, DH says no!

Why is it if you're having a boy, you have girls names coming out of your ears, and if you're having a girl, you can only think of boys names?
