Names that aren't shortened

Hi everyone! I'm looking for suggestions for both boys and girls names that can't be nicknamed/shortened, or not usually shortened if that makes sense. For me personally I'm really not keen on names that eventually end up as nicknames such as Ellie, Liv, Ed, Ol that kind of thing. I don't have a theme as such, but would like to avoid common names ie. Top 100. It doesn't have to be one, but I do love vintage names (think the kind of names you see in your local church ground). I know most may be popular names now as they all come back around eventually! But very open to suggestions.

Girls - Claire, Anna, Hannah, Lucy, Beth, Thea, Chloe, Lea, Lydia, Jane, Alice

Boys - Miles, Giles, Mark, Paul, Adam, Euan, Ian, Sean, Grant

However we have two of those in our family and the names get lengthened e.g. Janey!

I think people will find a way to shortern or find a nickname for most names somehow.

Lots of the names here I know of people who now get a shorter version - June “ju” for example. I know a Harry picked because it couldn’t be shortened and he is known by many as H now!

Loads of the names suggested can be shortened. I know people whose names have been shortened to Zo, Al, Han, Lou, Roo, Pete, Dec, Hels, Nanc, Mab, Ju!

As a pp said-many short names end up being lengthened, eg, Janey, Joey, Ralphy!

For girls, Honor, Verity, Faith, Joy, Pearl, Faye, May, Iris, Amber, Wren, Anna, Bonnie, Seren, Tara, Cara, Cora, Ruth, Sara, Lorna, Mairead, Mary, Nia, Mair (it's Welsh), Leah, Eve, Kate, Grace and Rose (although my Grace gets people calling her 'Gracie'...).

For boys, the only ones that I can think of off the top of my head are the ones called things like John, Owen, George, Tom, Elis, Miles, Felix, Joe, Mark, Adam, Luke, Josh. In one family's case, their parents went for short names because they didn't want them to be shortened further! I also vaguely knew a Charles who insisted on being called Charles, rather than any of the short forms.

There is no name in existence that can't be fiddled around with to shorten/lengthen or otherwise alter.

Just choose the one you love and let nature take its course!

ETA I have an L name that has been quite popular in recent decades but wasn't whan I was born. I was Lulubelle in the family (it bears no resemblance whatsoever to my given name)

A few people have said Adam. I know at least two who go by “Ad”

personally I would pick a name you like stick with the full name while your in control then hope for the best!

I tried that with both my sons names one of the names mentioned on this thread,
one was shortened ,the other name I chose his football mates added a “y” to the end of it so both were altered
I think as others have said whatever the name it will usually be altered I some way

3 of my 4 dc have their names abbreviated by everyone. Two of these were abbreviations I don’t like . I do have an Esther, and her name is never abbreviated. I have been told, however, that it’s commonly abbreviated in South Africa and Israel, to Essie.

Go for a name that you like, and don’t worry about this - fwiw, the two nicknames I didn’t like/want, suit my children far better than my preferred names.

DD has a 4 letter name mentioned a few times on this thread - she’s still managed to get a nickname from classmates at school. And best not to mention the Max in her year 1 group, who is known as Smithy at the age of 6, or the kids whose names get shortened to a mere first letter.

I would choose a name that you love or that means something to you, rather than in the hope it will meet certain requirements as kids can’t be relied upon to be predictable.
