Hi all, our 1st born daughter is called Camille and we are expecting our second daughter next month. We really like the name Gigi. What are people’s thoughts?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I automatically think of a horse when I hear the name Gigi. It’s more of a nickname IMHO. I’d check out other French girl names to go with Camille.

I really like it - which surprised me!

I love Gigi

Also I know 2 Gigi’s who are just Gigi- no “real name for the BC”

localnotail · Today 08:21

Its not a full name, surely? It sounds like a dog's name. Its kind of demeaning.

I though Camille was a boy's name in French.

I am so sorry but it's awful. Please don't it reminds me of baby talk for a horse. Congratulations on your baby girl hope all goes well.

UserName00747 · Today 08:31

It reminds me of a cartoon I once saw of two horses in a field and one of them is reading the book 'The joy of sex' and the other horse says 'Is there anything in there about the Gee-Gee spot'?

Inheritancequestions · Today 08:40

Personally I think Gigi sounds like a French opera girl who's having an affair with a British "gentleman" in a Victorian novel. Also sounds like baby talk for a horse.

DoloresDelEriba · Today 08:41

Are you French?

Velvian · Today 08:45

Only if she is a horse. Seriously though, I think it would be hard work to be called Gigi. What if she is having a bad day and wants to disappear into the background? Or be taken seriously at school or work? I think Gigi would be a hindrance in life.

What’s the back up idea?

Marcipex · Today 09:10

Gigi is even ugly written down.
Honestly, it’s a dreadful name.

Holisticthy · Today 09:20

Like it as a nickname too
Sounds like the name of adult entertainer

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · Today 09:52

Gigi is nice as a nickname/shortening but not a full name. How about Georgina?
Alternatively Genevieve, Gianna, Georgiana

saraclara · Today 10:03

It's a nice name in French. But here it will end up being baby talk for a horse.

honeylulu · Today 10:09

It needs to be short for something else. Genevieve is beautiful and gives her options (one of my best and most gorgeous friends is Genevieve so I'm hugely biased in my favour of the name!)

Camille is very pretty, I think I like it slightly better than Camilla.

I agree Genevieve sounds very cool and sophisticated with great shortenings and Camille is very pretty

Yes, horse for me I'm afraid, and the young Gigi from the Collette novella who was groomed as a courtesan. So not great associations for me...

I second Genevieve with Camille.

StationJack · Today 10:33

@localnotail Camille can be a boy or girl's name.
@honeylulu , Genevieve is beautiful and gives her options It's a name that sounds nice in French but not in English. Given that the options include Gen and Evie, I'd give it a miss.
