Hi all, our 1st born daughter is called Camille and we are expecting our second daughter next month. We really like the name Gigi. What are people’s thoughts?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Dreadful.

Shloopie · Yesterday 20:31

Reminds me of the 1950s musical of the same name, which hasn't aged very well tbh.

TheLurpackYears · Yesterday 20:31

Giselle? I don’t think if Gigi as a whole name, more of a nickname for a woman or a dog. Or gee gee as slang for horse.

HeddaGarbled · Yesterday 20:31

Living in the U.K.? I don’t like it.

Saturdaysfairies · Yesterday 20:32

No.

Shloopie · Yesterday 20:32

And yes, I knew a celeb had a daughter with this name. Vogue and that annoying Spencer fella have a Gigi. People might think you've been inspired by them.

StationJack · Yesterday 20:34

She'll be Geegee, I bet. Giselle would be 'Jizz-elle'.

The Gigi in the film was Gilberte., which won't work very well in the UK.

Colette?

Minasama · Yesterday 20:38

In Italy “Gigi” is short for Luigi, which is a man’s name.

Vivienne?

Poor kid. Just no.

RumPidgeon · Yesterday 20:39

No.

what about Sylvie/Estelle/Juliette/Odette?

Vivienne?

❤️

And I think Gigi would be a hard name to carry off for a quiet studious type of girl. It evokes a certain kind of exuberance. So if you're set on Gigi use it as short for something else, something that's less of party girl name that she can use if she doesn't grow up to feel particularly Gigi-ish.

roshi42 · Yesterday 20:42

Perfect!

UnintentionalArcher · Yesterday 20:46

I don’t like it myself, but as a name that someone else would choose that’s not relevant. I do think it needs a level of logic to it though and my concern would be that Gigi is typically a shortening of something else, not a name in its own right. As others have said, perhaps consider names that it could be short for.

GramercyPark · Yesterday 20:46

If you want them to be a pair of 1920s showgirls at the Folies Bergeres, sure.

UnintentionalArcher · Yesterday 20:48

Sorry, I meant to ask - are you French (as your other daughter is Camille)? Gigi with its soft ‘g’ sound, ideally if you had it as a shortening of another name (just my opinion), would make more sense if there’s French heritage.

Tablesandchairs23 · Yesterday 20:51

Bloody awful. Sounds like a bad nickname.

user293948849167 · Yesterday 22:36

I really don’t like it sorry, especially as Camille is such a beautiful name then you call
your second daughter Gigi!

Norastroud · Today 00:05

I like Gigi, but think it would be better as a nickname shortening - perhaps for Genevieve or Georgina?

Tiredhappymum · Today 00:08

I was going to suggest Genevieve as well

FancyKitten · Today 00:09

It’s not a real name as far as I’m concerned. More of a nickname. A pet name. Also, when a stranger (or your granny) asks the child’s name… Make her life easier!

MeowDoku · Today 00:10

Reminds me of real housewives of Beverly hills, Camille Grammar and Gigi Hadid

ETA even Yolanda gave her daughter a full name Jelena Noura Hadid, Gigi is her nickname

WimbleOfWombledon · Today 01:30

I think Gigi is usually a nickname for something else. The 2 Gigis know are called Gisella and Giselle. I’m afraid I don’t like it as it sounds too nicknames-y
