Torn between Elsie and Elektra for our baby girl

First time parents, Two very different names but these are our top two and I feel so torn. Elsie feels very cutesy and girly, Elektra feels bold. Sounds silly but it feels like a decision that will have a huge bearing on who she becomes. Elsie is a family name but worried it is very popular. Elektra i just worry could be too bold. Also if it was Elektra I envision it with a ‘k’ not a ‘c’ but is that also too bold?

Elsie is a name for an older woman, not a little girl.

Elektra/Electra is not good for anyone!

What about Stella or Etta?

I just couldn’t imagine called a baby Elektra and I said that with a toddler who has a strong powerful sounding name!

Lexi?

Often used in a double barrelled way, Lexi- Mae.

Elsie is a name for girls and women of all ages.
Hence it's in the UK top 10.

I really like Zelda for a bold name that’s not ridiculously out there.

It wasn't until recently. It's a diminutive of Elizabeth and the popular ones become dated.
No Elsies my age but lots of Lisas and Bethans.

Elektra is awful. How about Elise? Similar to Elsie but timeless

Elektra just makes me thing of a porn star and Elsie is horribly old fashioned - it reminds me of a very old woman who used to be a permanent fixture in our local pub about 50 years ago who drank pints of Guinness and smelled of BO and cabbage.

If my parents named me Elektra or Electra, I’d disown them and change it to something normal 😂.

True but they don't stay fashionable for long, so they don't suit a woman of any age. They will suit a woman of the baby's age throughout her life.

You don't know that. It may endure. It may not. It would be foolish to decide against a name because it won't "suit" someone of 50.
I never thought I'd teach teenagers called Wilfred, Arthur, Nancy, Mabel and Elsie, yet here we are.
They'll have those names all their lives. So the names will suit people of all ages.

It will suit someone of 50 because the Elsies will be that age. Just like Karen is fine for women who are about 60 now. Fashions change.

@RhododendronFlowers , Elsie was grannyish when I was young. I've never really liked it. I'm not going to start liking it now because there are young ones.
I like names like Sharon and Linda but they were of their time. I'd not be choosing either for a baby.

Elsie to me is Elsie Tanner or the one from Caberet, Elise is Für or Loads of Trouble Usually Serious.

I agree, and it's funny what we associate with names. I remember the first teenage boy I taught called Wilfred, I thought it was very old fashioned, but I've met a few.
I suppose you'd be ahead of the curve to name your daughter Linda!
