Sorrel or Manon

Wondered if anyone knew anyone with these names and what they think of them

Sorrel, Elowen, Manon (pronounced Welsh way.

Two syllable surname.

Also what goes well as a middle name. Family names don’t really suit and have been used apart from Mai (pronounced My)

Elowen is lovely, I imagine a strong, capable sort of woman having that name.

I’ve never got on board with Manon probably because I’m a footballer and as a PP pointed out we use this a lot on the pitch.

Sorrel is nice but I always read it in my head with a scouse accent for some reason, think I must’ve known a Liverpudlian Sorrel at some point or maybe a character in something.

I really like Elowen (Elowen Mai?).

Manon is hard to say (for me) and Sorrel is a bit hippy.

Funny - every time I hear that name I think mais non (but no) in French.

Sorrel sounds too much like 'sorrow' and 'Manon' just makes me think of 'man on' - but Elowen is very pretty and elegant.

All are sweet names.

@Pieceofpurplesky , seeing as you asked, your transcription suggested that the French pronunciation was Ma-NUHN. in French it's Man-on on a French sound you don't get in English, syllables stressed equally. You know how your relative says it, we don't.
I've no idea how you say non - I say it to rhyme with gone but some say it to rhyme with none.
In both, the first n is in the first syllable not the second (like in candy, manor or Chanel)

The Welsh name Manon is popular and there are plenty of them (e.g. Manon Steffan Ros, who is the sort of age I'd expect a Manon to be - somewhere between about 30 and 60). The name is pronounced MAN-on, with on rhyming with gone.

I expect non-Welsh speakers would say it as MAN-un.

Appreciate that I'm being picky, but the syllable split and stress makes a difference in Welsh names.
I'm not Cornish, but Welsh and Cornish are sibling languages. Elowen is Eh-LOW-enn, I believe, OW like in Owen.
Change the syllable split and stress and it becomes EL-ow-in.

I love Sorrell.

This is exactly what I thought as I’m currently reading that series 😂 although I like the name Aelin.

I tried to convince DH to let me call DD1 Aelin but he said people would call her alien 🤣

I like them all. Elowyn does make me think of the Black Cauldron too but I think that's quite an obscure reference these days. Manon sounds great so long as people aren't attempting a French n. Sorrel is lovely - I also have the Noel Streatfeild association there, and it's a good one.

That's what I meant, sorry. I can see it looks as if I was saying he used Welsh directly, now you quote it!

Sorrel is fabulous and what a breath of fresh air to see. I do like Manon but not Elowen, as I just think of the letters LON. Lowenna is a nice alternative.

They are all lovely names. I really like Manon, always makes me think of the wonderful film Manon de Sources.

I should've added that I like the middle name Fay or Faith. Sorrel Faith.

How about Hebe, Cassia or Damaris as other first names OP?
