What does everyone think of Poppy?
is it likely to date badly?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I love Poppy 🥰

YosoyEduardo · 22/08/2026 21:48

My first cat was Poppy. Great name for a cat.

Excellentsausages · 22/08/2026 21:57

It's too twee for my tastes (along with Rosie). I prefer Polly.

It's been a top 100 names since at least 1996 so i doubt it will date quickly as it's not a super fast riser. Top 10 name now.

PrettyLittleRose · 22/08/2026 22:01

I like it. I prefer Lily or Daisy though.

It’s not for me. My friend’s wife is called Poppy and is in her thirties and I always think it’s a bit of a silly kind of name.

LilyLemonade · 22/08/2026 23:22

It's sweet enough but yes I think it will date.

CaptainWidepant · 22/08/2026 23:27

It’s lovely, and no more “twee” than other flower names like Rose, Lily, Daisy, etc. I know a couple of middle-aged women called Poppy as well as a 10yo and it suits them all perfectly well

I LOVE the name Poppy. In 2006 my new car was known as Poppy as I loved the name but wasn't having a family at that stage! 20 years on and three kids later I still love the name. But we had one girl and two boys and another girls name got the vote. If we were to have another girl, she would be Poppy.

Please go for it but please don't add on Mae or anything else as a double barred name as it's so nice on it's own!

Lovely name. My favourite flower, ‘coquelicot in French.

JustMeSimply · 22/08/2026 23:54

Lovely name. My favourite flower, ‘coquelicot in French.

I wouldn't want to be called Coquelicot. Pavot might suit a dog.
Rosella is better, خشخاش sweet, Klaproos or Mohn might not work in the UK. ケシ...

I’ve known two dogs and a cat called poppy so I wouldn’t use it for a human.
