Cora

What do you think of the name Cora? Does it remind you of the film ‘Coraline’? I find the film to be creepy and do not want that to be the main association when people hear the name.

We’re also considering Coral (which I feel has a very similar vibe and is possibly more original/less common than Cora), but I am worried that will be confused for Carol (as often happens with names that look alike). I know someone named Caroline who is often mistakenly called Carolyn, so the concern is not unfounded.

Gorgeous name

LasVegass · 19/08/2026 22:49

I only knew a neighbour’s daughter called Cora. She was a pretty little thing with curly red hair. She’d be in her late 40s now.

Reminds me of cora cross out eastenders...my brother and his wife chose that name for there baby girl...still can't get my head round it 7 years later 🤣.

Mumofgirls2017 · 19/08/2026 23:03

Cora is lovely but, think it’s having a moment. I have met 3 recently, but there’s nothing wrong with it. Don’t let that put you off. I’ve called my daughter a name that then became trendy. But I love it regardless!

WonderWeeksArentReal · 19/08/2026 23:05

It makes me think of Downton Abbey. Tbh not a fan of Cora though I really love Cara.

Belindabelle · 19/08/2026 23:13

I like Cora. If I had a girl she was going to be Corinne (cor inn not coréen)

Spidey66 · 19/08/2026 23:18

I like it. Common enough for people to know it, but not so common she’ll be one of 3 or 4 in her class, easy to spell, sounds good for all ages and professions.

What about Coralie?

Also came to suggest Coralie!

This was high on my list for girl names but DH vetoed it. Then we met one when we were out once, the same age as my child and it was just so beautiful as a name.

Is your surname Knappell?

Took a minute for the penny to drop for me. 😆

@FieryFlame Cora is OK, but I think I also prefer Cara. Coral is nice too IMO.

NormasArse · 19/08/2026 23:27

Cora, in my humble opinion, is much nicer than Coral.

Pieceofpurplesky · 19/08/2026 23:28

Love it. My friend's daughter is Cora and is as cute as the name

rubyrued · 19/08/2026 23:29

love it

Markisagreatname · 19/08/2026 23:31

Apple core.

Calliopespa · 19/08/2026 23:33

Downton Abbey for me.

I don't mind Cora, and think it needs the "line" to sound like Coraline. Cora works for a little girl or a grown woman.

I'm sorry but I think Coral is really, really awful ...

whippersnapper55 · 19/08/2026 23:37

I love it! We have a little Cora next door and she's a proper little chatterbox ☺️ so lovely!

Shloopie · 19/08/2026 23:40

Up until a few years ago the only people I knew called Cora were elderly Irish women. But it's definitely been on an upward trajectory as a baby name in the last decade.

WWomble · 19/08/2026 23:45

Cora - loved it til someone mentioned Apple core!
Coral - very different vibe, not for me.
Coraline - again not my taste.
Cara - prefer Clara
Coralie - love it.

buttercup786 · 19/08/2026 23:49

Like the poster above and anyone following the trial of Lyndsey Clancy. I now associate it with poor little Cora.

user1492757084 · 20/08/2026 04:43

Cora is fine and nicer than Coral and Coralie.

I prefer Clara, Cosima, Cara and Caroline.

Theraffarian · 20/08/2026 06:30

It's the name of the NatWest online chat bot .

Firebird83 · 20/08/2026 09:55

I prefer Cora to Coral.
