I like:

Lucille
Bella
Eloise
Lisbeth
Clara
Genevieve
Ava
Topsy
Hannah
Heidi

any other ideas that might fall into my name zone. Only interested in girls at the moment until I can talk DH out of Sam, even in theory.

Like Clara and Heidi best out of that lot.

Topsy????? No

Mung · 25/06/2008 21:35

Topsy...my Mum calls my DD that and I really don't like it. Clara is my favourite on your list...I really love that name. Friends just called their daughter Klara, but she is half German, hence the spelling change.

Hulababy · 25/06/2008 21:38

Lucille - OK, but prefer Lucy or Lucie
Bella - again OK, but prefer to give longer versiob for BC such as Annabella
Eloise - not so keen
Lisbeth - prefer Elisabeth
Clara - not so keen; prefer Claire to Clara
Genevieve - I like Eve or Evie as a shortened version
Ava - quite pretty
Topsy - sorry, no
Hannah - lovely pretty name, as is Anna
Heidi - not for me

tortoiseSHELL · 25/06/2008 21:40

Lucille - don't like
Bella - feels like a nickname for Isabella
Eloise - very pretty - also like Elise
Lisbeth - prefer Elisabeth
Clara - lovely
Genevieve - lovely - would you shorten to Jenny?
Ava - very lovely
Topsy - again, a nickname
Hannah - beautiful, timeless
Heidi - pretty

liath · 25/06/2008 21:40

Elise
Lucia

LaDiDaDi · 25/06/2008 21:42

I like Clara, Eloise and Lucille.

Topsy , is that in to check that we are paying attention to an otherwise reasonable collection of names?

Flum · 25/06/2008 21:44

I love Topsy though. Our other DDs have quite classic old fashioned names though so don't want her to sound like the pet dog. Maybe will keep Topsy for the pet dog.

I love Hannah but not usre it is timeless, v. popular this last 10 yrs though.

Clara I love. I think Clara and Heidi are from my love of the Heidi books.

Lucille - No way
Bella - nice
Eloise - Lovely
Lisbeth - no; maybe Elsbeth though
Clara - nice
Genevieve - love
Ava - love
Topsy - no way! You can call her this as a pet name, but IT CAN@T BE HER NAME
Hannah - love
Heidi - nice

Yurtgirl · 25/06/2008 21:46

I like Heidi and Hannah

ivykaty44 · 25/06/2008 21:49

Topsy is ok if you want your dc to have the p*ss riped all her life - sorry it will happen - nealry as bad as "wine" -the surname was basket I kid you not (found on one of the census - think it was 1861)

Flum · 25/06/2008 21:51

We have quite a grand sounding surname though I reckon Topsy could pull it off.
Love Genevieve but don't want her to have to spell it all her life. Bit of a mouthful.

Mung · 25/06/2008 21:52

Please dont use Topsy...you have a large selection of really nice names there, dont do it to the poor child!

BlueBumedFly · 25/06/2008 22:03

Topsy? Nope...then again I called my DD Clementine which according to approx 25% of voters the other night is poncy! I do like Clara though ..

daffodill6 · 25/06/2008 22:04

Topsy Ok for an under 7 but then what .. lifelong shame ..(Topsy-turvey, topsy the squirrel etc)

Think also what it'll be shortened too - Genevieve - is bound to become jenni

Ava - lovely but likely to be confused with Eva

Flum · 25/06/2008 22:05

OK tOPSY IS GONE. Lucia sounds too Italian.

Clementine is the new Isobel so I'm told.

OP posts:
BlueBumedFly · 25/06/2008 22:07

Oh no really? I named DD Clementine as I had never EVER heard of another, apart from Clementine Churchill of corse..bugger.

thumbwitch · 25/06/2008 22:07

What about Eve? short form for Genevieve, similar to Ava - Evie is nice for nn.

JulesJules · 25/06/2008 22:08

Topsy and Lisbeth are possibly OK as nicknames, but not suitable for a grown woman IMO, what if she ended up Prime Minister! I like the others, Eloise my favourite from your list. BlueBumedFly - I love Clementine...

BlueBumedFly · 25/06/2008 22:09

Thank you JulesJules, I love it too

Just looked and there have been 5 Topsey's given this name in uk since 1984 - one is Topsey-Anne.

Clementine has been popular since 1984 and there are quite a few out there

MKG · 25/06/2008 22:27

I vote for Bella.

liath · 25/06/2008 22:27

Dd is Eloise, I absolutely love it BUT she gets called Ellie all the time which is not an uncommon name at the moment. I really wanted Elise but Dh vetoed it .

Topsy would be a great nickname.

thumbwitch · 25/06/2008 22:41

would DH be happier if he knew that Elise is a model of Lotus car? Or is that why he vetoed it?

thumbwitch · 25/06/2008 22:42

sorry liath, being dim, managed to confuse you with OP
