Wynn

Our previous choice, Graham (DH's deceased father's name), has been pretty much blown out of the water, so we have moved on to Wynn. (which is DH's middle name, after an old friend of the family.)

Is this name acceptable?

Reckon it is a familiar enough sound with all the Finn's running around out there, but anything I'm missing?

We may actually go with Graham Wynn, but would then use Wynn.

yes! reminds me of wynn strafford in kitty foyle (weepy film with ginger rogers)

Miyazaki · 23/06/2008 13:38

nice that it is already a family name.

and as somebody with a middle name that was used as my first name - just want to say - it drove/drives me nuts.

FoulOlRon · 23/06/2008 13:43

love it - know 2 men called Wynn and no-one has ever taken the mickey or anything. In fact I considred it for my dsses but doesn't go with our surname.

slinkiemalinki · 23/06/2008 17:03

Makes me think of the snoot hotel in Vegas that will not allow pushchairs (named after its Donald Trump-esque developer).
But rather nice otherwise (and better than Graham I would say... sorry)

differentID · 23/06/2008 17:14

that name is not unusual where I am from, but normally spelt Wyn for boys

chandellina · 23/06/2008 17:39

thanks for the feedback.
clearly a lot less controversial than Graham!!

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/06/2008 17:40

I'm thinking of Win Butler from Arcade Fire, think it's short for Edwin though...

nooka · 23/06/2008 17:50

Doesn't sound like a first name to me (more a middle name aka Dianna Wynne Jones) but then I like Graham! To me Graham Wynn looks excellent

dizzydixies · 23/06/2008 17:51

its nice

very nice hotel in Vegas too!!

Boco · 23/06/2008 17:51

I think it's lovely.

pointydog · 23/06/2008 17:52

Never heard of the name Wynn. But nice sound, no connotations.

youcannotbeserious · 23/06/2008 17:54

I love Wynn... DH and I got married at THe WYnn last year and DS was conceived there...

Decided against it, but love the name...

hayley2u · 23/06/2008 17:55

love wyn y nan was called wyn she was lovely xx

greenelizabeth · 23/06/2008 18:21

Oh for a boy? I like it. I was all set to beg you to consider Olwen instead. But Wynn for a boy, yes I like it.

LullyOfShallot · 23/06/2008 18:36

It's lovely

expatinscotland · 23/06/2008 18:40

Um, no.

It doesn't do it for me.

PuppyMonkey · 23/06/2008 18:47

I dunno why but i assumed this would be a girl's name. In either case it's awful!!!! No no no no no..... Graham, Wynn?????... eeek..... Get back to the drawing board.. sorry, just being honest (and trying to save your kid from having a terrible life)_ .

niceglasses · 23/06/2008 18:49

ooo yes. Inspired by the aforementioned Win Butler of Arcade Fire, short for Edwin. Lovely I think. Would be on my list.

chandellina · 24/06/2008 08:53

so not too confusing that it would be a boy's name? i see that there is female version, wynne, or just wyn/n for girls too.

I reject DH's fave, Kai, because i thought it raised gender issues. (and because i HATE it.)

PuppyMonkey · 24/06/2008 09:05

No offence op, but it seems to me both you and your dh are rubbish at picking nice names.... Kai!!!!!!??????? Graham????? Wynn????? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

EffiePerine · 24/06/2008 09:13

I ratehr like it, though the only Wynn I know is a woman (a rather top woman I should say).

alibubbles · 24/06/2008 09:24

My godfather is Wynn, bbut it is short for Wyndham

Kewcumber · 24/06/2008 09:28

Wyn is a Welsh boys name. No-one will ever be able to spell it and he will spend the rest of his life explaining it to people. OK if you are in Wales not outside in my view.

IS there a welsh link? If so how about Bryn?

Kewcumber · 24/06/2008 09:29

"Wynn
Masculine variant of unisex Wynne, meaning blessed, fair, white "

Niecie · 24/06/2008 09:34

Graham Wynn? Wasn't he one of the designers on changing rooms?

Winn (without the y) was my maiden name and I was forever having to spell it or I got any one of the following.

Winn
Wyn
Wynne
Wynn
Win

I know it isn't the same and the 'y' versions are more common but it is a common surname so I personally wouldn't feel right about using it as a first name.

However, if you are using it as a family tradition go for it.
