Our previous choice, Graham (DH's deceased father's name), has been pretty much blown out of the water, so we have moved on to Wynn. (which is DH's middle name, after an old friend of the family.)

Is this name acceptable?

Reckon it is a familiar enough sound with all the Finn's running around out there, but anything I'm missing?

We may actually go with Graham Wynn, but would then use Wynn.

I quite like it, but can't help thinking people will assume it's short for Winston or something.

Also - not a big point but wasn't Graham Wynn a designer on Changing Rooms?

DaDaDa · 24/06/2008 09:37

Wyn Davies, Toon legend. Good choice!

By the way, DH has a family tradition of using middle names instead of first names and it causes no end of little problems. I never know what to call him when I am doing something official - birth cert name or actual name? Even things like getting an insurance quote for the car - what do I call him?

He gets called by his real first name and he doesn't answer because just doesn't realise they are talking about him (in doctors surgeries or anywhere else they don't know him).

Stupid things like he signs his name with his middle name which is what he is called and the bank account is in his first name and that can cause problems. Probably avoidable but you don't think of these things when you are a teenager developing a signature.

Needless to say DH and his brothers have not carried on this tradition with their children.

how about - "Wmffre
Welsh form of Humphrey, meaning peaceful giant "

bikerunski · 24/06/2008 14:31

Kewcumber, surely Bryn is as Welsh as Wynn!

chandellina · 24/06/2008 16:01

DH is half Welsh.

i don't know why we are having such a problem with names.

I want it to have some family tie or meaning.

I like it. I have an uncle called Wynn.

Kewcumber · 24/06/2008 22:27

yes bike I know I was assuming if they were considering Wynne that there was a welsh connection!

Kewcumber · 24/06/2008 22:29

Wmffre wasn't a serious suggestion btw (pronounced Oom - ffreh)

fishie · 24/06/2008 22:32

wynn is super name. i have friend called wyn.

and anyone who can't spell or pronounce that has their own problems.

LynetteScavo · 24/06/2008 22:33

I though it was a girls name.

SquiffyHock · 24/06/2008 22:35

Why is Graham out? I think Grey is really cool

Comerscroft · 25/06/2008 07:08

Would have to watch any shortening or nickname such as 'Wynnie' == Winnie.

Winnie is short for Winifred (real old lady name) and also makes me think of Winnie the Pooh.

LuLuBai · 25/06/2008 10:13

It's a fine name, but to me it sounds like a middle name. It works really well inserted between first name and surnmae (pick names at random and try it out - it works nearly every time) but for me it doesn't really work as a stand alone name.
