And kids today will probably be saying Hi. Hi Heidi or Hiya Kaia/Maya/Gaia.

I like Heidi, Elise and Libby. Although Libby is a nn of Elizabeth. Dislike Marnie and Tia. Also Keira but also find it ‘heavy’. A bit meh about Nina

I'm the same.

Favourite is Elise (absolutely lovely and much more unusual than Eliza or Elisa as an Elizabeth diminutive, and also stands on its own I feel)

Second equal Heidi and Libby. Libby is very sweet as a diminutive of Elizabeth but I do think it is a bit "unfinished" as BC name.

I wonder, would you use Elizabeth on BC and she could then go by either Elise or Libby as you felt best suited her?

Tia is Tia Maria to me: a coffee liqueur, and not a particularly classy one.

Marnie I just cannot see the appeal of. It sounds whiny and makes me think of a Marmite sarnie.

Nina is sweet, but I can see where the pp who said nee-nah, nee-nah is coming from: Parisian fire engine siren!

I went to school with a Heidi and we never once teased her.

ETA she did get "Hides" a bit but it wasn't a joke, just an affectionate shortening that none of us thought anything negative about.

Her classmates...

Honestly: MN is getting weirder and weirder ... Were you thinking it was the Royal We or something?🤔

Whataflippincircus · 15/05/2026 17:17

Marnie or Libby

TofuTuesday · 15/05/2026 17:18

keira - keer-uh (actress)
ciara - kee-uh-ruh (friend on school run)
chiara - key ar uh (only knew her from Italy)

jollygoose · 15/05/2026 17:21

I like Libby but would use Elizabeth and Libby as a nickname. I also like Elise and Heidi but really not keen on Marnie or Nina but Nina might be because I hated Nina P at school!

Lins77 · 15/05/2026 17:21

I quite like them all except Tia.

As pointed out, Keira has multiple possible spellings. Not necessarily a problem but perhaps a consideration.

(I also have a name with multiple possible spellings, and people usually get the wrong one, but it doesn't bother me unduly 😄)

KojaksLollipop · 15/05/2026 17:27

I know a Marnie in her 50’s now, I always thought it was a lovely name.
Elise, I prefer Eliza. You could cover both Eliza and Libby if you call her Elizabeth.
Heidi and Keira, both nice enough.
I don’t like Nina or Tia, they seem unfinished somehow. When my ds was little he used to shout Tia whenever he saw a trailer, lol

OneZanyCat · 15/05/2026 17:42

Love Elise and Libby
Marnie reminds me of sarnie as in a sandwich so no
Heidi I think of the book so no. Had a Heidi in our class and she hated her name. Though may not be an issue with time difference.
Nina not that keen
Keira - Like but prefer other spellings
Tia - not that keen

I thought you meant her friends.
My friends didn't make fun of my name but the bully types tried to. (Didn't work because I didn't rise to it.)

Marnie has an unpleasant, whiny sound to me. It is also a name that is quite accent dependent.

I like Libby and Heidi.
Not a fan of Nina, Tia or Keira.

This is exactly what I would have posted!

Brummiecurlz173 · 17/05/2026 19:54

I am a Tia, its a short and easy name to pronounce and spell so there is that but theres always the option of having it as a longer name, for example Cristina if you still wanted to carry off the Spanish vibe. there is the Tia Maria conotation but thats hardly anything. i hope that helps. if your surname begins with P, there could be Toilet Paper jokes but please dont let that put you off.

Nina, not such a fan
Keira- a popular name but not one i hate
Libby- like with Tia, you could have a longer name but use that day-day
Marnie- not awful but reminds me of mardy
Heidi- not bad
Elise- is a car, but this name has a pretty feel to it

LulaLulaByeBye · 18/05/2026 13:42

I used to think Tia was a super popular name on a forum I was on as everyone was signing their post "Tia xxx" then I realised it meant "thanks in advance"

BillieWiper · 18/05/2026 13:44

I like Marnie and Keira. I like Ellis but not Elise.
Really dislike Tia. It reminds me of the awful Bonnie Blue?!

steppemum · 18/05/2026 13:57

Marnie - I htink this sounds awful, sounds whiny and unpleasant. Just don't like it. It is like Sarnie as a shortening of sandwich, horrible sounding word
Heidi - pretty, but I think it still links too much to swiss alps and goat herds, although that may be generational
Elise - pretty
Libby - don't like the sound of it. Wouldn't mind it as a shortening to Elizabeth, but not as a stand alone name.

Nina - pretty
Keira or Tia - these are pretty enough, but in my area they are very council estate names and not my taste.

permanently · 18/05/2026 14:44

Marnie

Lins77 · 18/05/2026 14:49

Marnie makes me think of the Hitchcock film, and the children's book/Studio Ghibli film When Marnie Was There.

I like it.

YooBlue · 18/05/2026 14:49

Marnie - love it. V cool
Heidi - ok. But twee?
Elise - good
Libby - good but prefer it as a nn for Elizabeth or Liberty
Nina - good
Keira - not so sure - so many people mis spell it
Tia - OK - obv not if middle name is Maria,

Calliopespa · 18/05/2026 16:21

😂That's the sort of thing I'd think too!

PinkPonyAnonymous · 18/05/2026 17:19

Marnie - irrationally HATE this name, sounds like an overly friendly but ugly retriever
Heidi - cool girl, acceptable also on a weird girl
Elise - cool girl, unfortunate on a weird girl
Libby - Short for Elizabeth, I like that this gives her more options later in life to become Liz, Beth, Eliza etc.
Nina - great name
Keira - great name
Tia - Spanish for Auntie or Tia Maria

I just googled Bonnie blue and found out her real name is Tia, I had no idea! 😬 Thanks for warning me, I'm definitely striking that one off the list, especially in case she goes back to using her real name like jordan/katie price!

I like Heidi and Nina, and Elise if pronounced Eleeze but not Eleece. I think Nina might be the most timeless, as in it will equally suit a little girl, an adult woman and an older woman.

Thanks, I prefer the Elize pronunciation too, is that the more common one in the uk?
