Could anyone offer any thoughts on any of these names please? Rosanna, Amy, Bethany, Cara, Christina, Abigail, Faith, Hope, Joanna, Holly, Rhiannon, Tessa, Leona, Alice, Leah, Mariah. Really struggling to narrow it down! Thanks!

Most of them are a bit dated to 80s/90s sorry! I like Alice though

That's ok! I'm happy to hear all opinions positive or negative, as if I don't manage to narrow it down soon I'm going to end up having to pick one from a hat! 😅

Go with Leah. It’s gorgeous. None of the others. There. Easy!

Giraffehaver · 11/05/2026 22:51

I love Rosanna in fact a variant of it is my daughter's mn. Also very fond of Alice

They’re a little 90’s for my own taste, but there’s nothing wrong with that!

I think Tessa, and Holly are the nicest. Alice is OK too but I think Alicia sounds nicer personally.

I agree, Alice, Tessa and Holly are the nicest and lots of the others all sound a bit American or like singers who go by their first name.

Personally I prefer Alice and Tessa over Holly so would go for one of those two,

It is interesting to note by and large the responses are falling into the "only Alice, Tessa, Holly" are nice or "all nice bar Alice, Tessa, Holly." I think that is because your list is kind of scooping up two different vibes. Not sure if that is helpful in thinking what you are wanting.

These are my favourites because they are elegant, classic and pretty:
Rosanna
Abigail
Tessa (especially if nn for Theresa)

I could also get on board with Hope.

Less keen on the others - could live with Alice but it always feels a bit prim to me.

bonkers75 · 12/05/2026 04:12

Rosanna- reminds me of the tv comedy Rosanne so that's a no
Amy- okay prefer Aimee spelling
Bethany- like
Cara- find this harsh
Christina- 80's baby
Abigail- okay
Faith- like
Hope- not so keen
Joanna- 80's baby
Holly- Christmas baby
Rhiannon- nice Welsh name
Tessa- feels like it's short for something
Leona- like but there is a lot of Leo's about now
Alice- pretty
Leah- a friend just had a baby Leah, and it doesn't seem right somehow
Mariah- don't like

Would Holly seem odd at all for a summer birthday or would it not matter?

People will always ask if she is a xmas baby... I speak from experience here.

I always respond that I thought Holly trees existed all year round

mellongoose · 12/05/2026 04:58

Rosanna is lovely nn Rosa. We nearly used it.

Also love Joanna.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/05/2026 09:44

You’ve got my and DD’s names and all our middle names in there! Not keen on Mariah, but the rest are good names which won’t date.

Thanks that's interesting, what vibes would you say Alice/Holly/Tessa have? 🙂

Sweet yet not sappily so. Traditional, feminine, pretty and elegant, yet not overly frilly, a child I would expect to have clean uniform and not run riot in school or an employee who would perform well and present well to clients! Confident and unusual enough not to be a crowd follower/crowd pleaser, yet not attention-seeking. Both Alice and Tessa have a slightly romantic or bookish/literary feel to me as well - probably Alice in Wonderland /Tess of the d'Urbervilles maybe!

Sort of "well-directed" in life !

Alice and Tessa have a more grown-up feel to me, yet are still very sweet on a little girl. Holly to me is a bit more sort of, I don't know, maybe babyish? I don;t dislike it, but I much prefer the other two!

That's what I was a little worried about but I suppose it's not the end of the world

Is that a bad thing, though? Not every 2020s baby has to be called Olivia or Poppy.

Pinkyhere · 12/05/2026 13:39

Alice is my favourite

user1492757084 · 12/05/2026 15:22

All nice names. My faves are Amy, Joanna and Bethany.

LoudPlumDog · 12/05/2026 16:26

I love …

Amy
Bethany
Rhiannon
Tessa
Alice

Two of those I have used myself.

LoudPlumDog · 12/05/2026 16:34

Does she have a middle name set? What is the surname? Any siblings? All that matters to me when naming a child.

Rosanna - ok but I don't like Rosie. Rosalind is beautiful as an alternative?
Amy - it is dated but also classic, a good name
Bethany - never liked it, really dislike Beth especially (and Seth, just don't like the sound)
Cara - fine
Christina - actually quite nice. Unusual but not in a bad way.
Abigail - I like Abbie but Abigail is a harsh sound to me, and a bit American puritan religious- maybe because of the Crucible.
Faith - i dislike virtue names
Hope - same as Faith
Joanna - good name. Dated but in a classic way with good shortenings.
Holly - ok
Rhiannon - not a fan
Tessa - fine
Leona - ok
Alice - weirdly despite not being Welsh, I've known a few women called Alys which is really pretty- Alice seems a bit twee despite sounding the same(!)
Leah - my favourite on your list
Mariah - no, but i like Maria

I'd choose Joanna or Leah

Greenknightsuccess · 12/05/2026 19:36

Rosanna - ok, but I prefer Rosina
Amy - great
Bethany - ok
Cara - great
Christina - ok
Abigail - ok
Faith - ok
Hope - ok
Joanna - great
Holly - great
Rhiannon - horrible
Tessa - great, but I’d use Teresa then shorten it to Tessa
Leona - prefer Leonie
Alice - great
Leah - ok
Mariah - horrid. But I love Maria.

I like Faith and Alice, they sound cute for little ones but cool for when they are older!
