Also any shortenings for Veronica? Thanks!

Daphne is so beautiful. I like names ending in 'ne', like Ariadne etc. I know a Veronica who is shortened to, um, Nonnie...

HonoriaGlossop · 30/06/2008 11:35

LadyT, I agree, the 'ne' ending is very stylish somehow. Ariadne is lovely.

Of the OP's selection I like Caroline, don't like Veronica, and love Daphne.

LuLuBai · 30/06/2008 11:42

I think Daphne is really beautiful.

Personally I don't like the look of the letter V. Too angular (- don't like the letter K for similar reasons but that is just me). As a name I think Veronica is fine - the French abbreviation Vero is very chic indeed.

I like Caroline - a good classic name that suits any generation. Nothing wrong with it at all but it's not as unusual as the others. Depends where you are going.

cyteen · 30/06/2008 11:50

I love Veronica (also since watching Heathers, nelly ) - it's a name with a lot of old-school glamour as far as I'm concerned. Nickname-wise, I have a friend named Verity (which I also love) and we all call her V, which I think is pretty cool.

Caroline - used to hate it, I've warmed to it somewhat but still think it's a bit blah.

Daphne - ditto. I like it more than I did, but it's still too close to Daffy for my liking.

Go Veronica!

AnnieLaurie70 · 10/07/2008 17:15

Lurking American here...

I like Daphne, but it reminds me of Daphne in Scooby Doo.

Veronica is beautiful, but I don't like Roni or Ricki.

My daughter is Caroline so of course I love it! I've been told it's past it's prime in the UK but it's enjoying a bit of a renaissance in the US, along with all the other "old-fashioned" names like Sophia and Emily, to name just two.

We were on vacation last week and there were two other Carolines under age 5 that we met. (Our daughter is almost 6).

dreamymum · 11/07/2008 09:56

Vera? not such a lovely nickname.
Caroline - a great name
Daphne - Daffy - also not great

lastboxoftampons · 11/07/2008 11:34

I love them all!

nappyaddict · 04/08/2008 00:13

I don't like Caroline, Veronica is ok, love Daphne.

All lovely traditional names!

hw2004 · 09/08/2008 09:54

Don't like Veronica - think it sounds a bit ugly really. Daphne - not my cup of tea.

Caroline I like a lot and even though people have said it's a bit dull I don't think so as there aren't many young children called Caroline these days. I love shortening it to Carrie, Caro or (like my friend does) Cai (pronounced kai).

Lemontart · 09/08/2008 09:57

I love Daphne - reminds me of Scooby Doo though..

norkmaiden · 09/08/2008 10:06

Veronica (vero is nice)
Verity
Vivienne

are all quite pretty. No to the others for me.

laweaselmys · 09/08/2008 13:43

Veronica normally shortens to Ronnie, but for non-tomboyish kids usually just to V in my experience. Of the three I'd probably go for that (because ronnie is cute and usable and veronica is fine for a grown-up) but not hugely keen on any of them... a touch old fashioned, perhaps?

TwoWindyDays · 09/08/2008 14:32

Really like Caroline, much nicer than the other two

CuckooClockWorkOrange · 09/08/2008 18:03

Middle-aged chic. How refreshing.

I like Veronica best from your list. Caroline too crusty. Daphne too flaky.

I like Valerie too.

MrsMattie · 09/08/2008 18:05

Don't like any of them, but Veronica is the least worst!

belgo · 09/08/2008 18:06

Agree with MrsMattie!

CuckooClockWorkOrange · 09/08/2008 18:09

Vivien is gorgeous btw. Much nicer than Veronica, which is a tiny bit harsh sounding.

Don't be too flouncy and spell it Vivienne though. That kills it.

Verity is lovely as well.

zookeeper · 09/08/2008 18:10

All byond awful. sorry.

Daphne? wtf?

WOW- this one just runs and runs! It was 21st of June when I first posted, still I wouldn't want a name that didn't provoke some reaction! For the record - Veronica is our current fave... but Romilly, which I did post here about is also a possibility. Funny how the post for Romilly, which got an almost overwhelmingly positive reception, dropped off so quick - whereas these 3 names seem to get people going! Cheers for all your helpful messages, love the recent message from Zookeeper! wtf indeed!
