When I think of Ronnie, I think of Veronica Guerin.

Brave, brave woman.

Collision · 21/06/2008 22:30

When I think of Veronica, I think of Ronnie Mitchell.

A trashy, trashy woman!

Daphne makes me think of she and Des from 'Neighbours'.

Kindersurprise · 21/06/2008 22:44

Caroline is nice but a bit insipid.

Daphne is the Broons for me too.

Veronica, I knew a thoroughly ghastly Veronica/Ronnie, the town bike so probably that is why I shuddered.

Vivian is nice.

MrsFogi · 21/06/2008 22:48

I started a thread on the name Daphne last year (search for it as there were a lot of posts) - I didn't use it in the end but I still love the name Daphne and regret not using it.

MrsBadger · 21/06/2008 22:50

Vivian is a boys' name, isn;t it?

Vivienne is lovely though, I know several

eekamoose · 21/06/2008 22:53

Oh thats sad MrsF. I regret you not using it too.

EyeballsintheSky · 21/06/2008 23:01

Love love love Caroline. Would definitely have been dd's name if there wasn't already one in the family so we used it as a middle name. I'm insanely jealous of anyone who is considering it!

Veronica's cute. Daphne makes me think of Daphne from Neighbours. Not that I'm old or anything...

ilovemydog · 21/06/2008 23:05

like caroline.

like daphne, but knew one and she was always called, 'daff...'

Comerscroft · 22/06/2008 07:28

My parents had friends called 'John and Ronnie F---'.

As a child. I couldn't understand how two men could be a couple. Later, I discovered that Ronnie was actually Veronica.

EffiePerine · 22/06/2008 07:33

I like Veronica (reminds me of that Elvis Costello song) and Caroline. Not as keep on Daphne but it's not a bad name.

belgo · 22/06/2008 07:39

Only like Veronica.

champagneandroses · 22/06/2008 11:32

I think they all sound too old and boring for a baby

nellyonthetelly · 22/06/2008 11:37

WOW - what wide ranging opinions! Thanks to all of you for your views... its really interesting to read them, and the results are quite unexpected! Its definately a girl for the person who asked... and its not due for a couple of months so plenty of time to take your comments on board, and think of alternatives! At this stage with my first daughter, we had decided her name, so I'm finding the indecision frustrating this time, that sais, had a posted her name on this forum I suspect I might of had second thoughts!! Luckily, I still love her unusual name. Thanks again. X

Thanks for letting me know about Veronica / Ronnie in Eastenders.... I like Veronica because of Winona Ryder's character in Heathers!

Personally, I don't like any of them. They all sound a bit snooty to me.

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/06/2008 20:47

Veronica was on my shortlist for this baby if it had been a girl. Shortening Ronnie. I obviously like it.

Not keen on the others.

lou031205 · 22/06/2008 20:56

no, no & no. sorry

charitygirl · 23/06/2008 13:29

Daphne is great! Would use it myself but DP's gran was Daphne and was apparently horrible old bag.

MsDemeanor · 23/06/2008 13:31

Like them. I like Vee as a shortening for Veronica.

Miyazaki · 23/06/2008 13:35

never heard of the broons??

Daphne is lovely.

Caroline ok (Caro)

what about Verity? Perhaps you could just about use Vivi (viveee) as a nickname for Veronica.

Weegiemum · 23/06/2008 14:20

I really like Caroline. We talked about it but went with Katherine in the end (liked the K better than Catherine).

edam · 23/06/2008 14:31

Daphne sounds wet. Too many soft sounds. Caroline is OK-ish but a bit horsey. Veronica's rather old-fashioned.

nooka · 23/06/2008 14:48

For some reason they make me think of mother in laws. I wonder if that's a generational thing? As names I think they would be unusual because they aren't in the grandparents generation yet (I think that there is a general tendency to go back two generations when thinking of names, which is why there have been so many Lottie/Archie type names over the lat 10 yrs or so).

However I'm afraid I don't like any of them. Prefer Vivian or Verity on the V front, and maybe Carola rather than Caroline. I don't like Daphne at all - that may be the Neighbours connection, or perhaps it's the pond one Or maybe its just the "horsiness" for all of them - I have an image in my mind of a bunch of blue stocking country girls braying away!
