I'm a huge fan of colombian singer Sebastian Yatra, and this is the name of one of his hit songs. and i used to hate it for how explicitly christian it is but now I think it's really cute!

thoughts????

check out the song CRISTINA it's beautiful and he sings SOOO well
also, i'm personally not christian so would it be weird to name a future daughter this?

If you’re British it just sounds like illiterate parents sorry. Like Linzie or Chaley (both people I knew at various times).

AnnaQuayRules · 02/05/2026 09:02

But Cristina or Christina isn't associated with Christianity in the UK so I doubt anyone be would make that connection.

If you like the name then use it, but be aware that "Tina" is often used as a nn and you may not be happy with that

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 02/05/2026 09:03

I don’t know any Christian Christina’s. It’s just a name like Christopher that doesn’t mean you’re religious.

I don’t know of any cristinas so suspect you’d be forever correcting spellings. The 3 Christina’s I know go by Chrissie not by Tina

Ohthatsabitshit · 02/05/2026 09:03

People will always think she’s a Christian, just as they would think a young man named Mohamed was a Muslim.

No they wouldn't

Runnersandtoms · 02/05/2026 09:07

I would literally never connect the names Christine /Christina/Christopher/Christian with a person's religion! They are just names.

But I agree that spelling it Cristina if you are British seems weird and everyone will spell it Christina.

MotherJessAndKittens · 02/05/2026 09:08

Definitely wouldn’t. If you like it, use it. It’s a lovely name x

Lomonald · 02/05/2026 09:14

Op if you like it use it means a lot to you,

The spelling really doesn't matter because If you use "ch" it is a different name with meaning.

hahabahbag · 02/05/2026 09:18

It’s not an issue from a religious perspective but i wouldn’t use the Spanish spelling in the U.K. unless you have Spanish roots so there’s a specific reason, it will be spelled wrong continuously.

What name is Chaley??

Cristina is nice and I don't think many people would associate it with Christ, maybe a much older generation.

I'm 46 and never until this moment connected the name Christina with being Christian.

Just because you're too culturally insular to be aware of the Hispanic spelling doesn't mean every British person is

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 02/05/2026 09:41

Never connect Christina with being Christian. Nor the name Christian itself

I know a few Christina's and not once have I wondered if they or their parents were Christian.

It might be Charley without the r. But I've never heard of it

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 02/05/2026 09:50

Has anyone ever connected perfectly normal names with the saints they are associated with? I very much doubt it. I don't think anyone so much as thinks about the religious aspect of almost any name these days.

Seriously? It would never cross my mind.

Dizzydrizzy · 02/05/2026 09:54

Never ever associated it with Christians.

dizzydizzydizzy · 02/05/2026 10:01

Lovely name! One of my top favourites. Nobody will care what your religion is or even if you are an atheist. But yeah, in the UK everyone will automatically put an H in the name.

Crikeyomalley · 02/05/2026 10:17

Lovely name (reminds me of the central character in Flambards a TV series J loved long ago) I'd use the traditional spelling tho

HughManity · 02/05/2026 10:41

Lomonald · 02/05/2026 09:10

She's not. The Cristinas I know are Italian (and about the same age as me). The spelling looks wrong because Chris- names have been popular for a long time.

audhdandme · 02/05/2026 10:49

Ohthatsabitshit · 02/05/2026 09:03

People will always think she’s a Christian, just as they would think a young man named Mohamed was a Muslim.

No they won’t. My cousin is called Christian and he’s never been asked if he’s Christian.

Muhammad is strongly associated with Islam because it’s the name of their Prophet so its very commonly used by Muslim families as a sign of respect and honour

Christian on the other handis just a name that happens to also be a word for a religion its not widely used in the same way to signal someones faith. So people aren’t as likely to assume a christian is actually christian, whereas they might make that assumption with muhammad

Needmorelego · 02/05/2026 11:02

Christina is (to me) a very 1940s/50s/60s name so I associate with ladies of the older generation. Most I know (several of my mums friends) go by Chris.
I have never associated it with being Christian - the same as I have never associated Christopher that way.
I've actually also thought of Christina (or Christine) as the female equivalent of Christopher not Christian.
I assume the origins of Christopher/Christine come from Christianity (I might be wrong) but no one ever assumes people called Matthew, Mark, Luke or John are Christian.
Cristina is quite a nice name but without the H she will probably go through life having to say "Oh.... there's no H".
If you go for it.....spell it Christina 🙂

cramptramp · 02/05/2026 11:03

No one will give the name a second thought. Apart from the spelling.
