DH has chosen Reijko (Ry-co) for a boy. we don't know the sex yet.

My choice for a girl is Scarlett.

Honest opions please, be as blunt as you like.....

Hmmm, don't hate it. I knew a Tycho once. AFter the composer.

EffiePerine · 20/06/2008 15:56

I think you need to agree a veto on a name either of you really hate.

greenelizabeth · 20/06/2008 16:00

I know a Finnish girl with a Lucas. She told me they chose it because it works in both languages. Is that any help. Lucas matches Caitlin and Jake a whole lot better!!

shatteredmumsrus · 20/06/2008 16:05

Sounds like a builders merchant and there is a girl in my sons class called Scarlett who is vile!Sorry

SoupKitchen · 20/06/2008 16:08

I don't like it. doesn't sound like a real name. It would never be spelt correctly.

I would come up with the worst name you can for a girl, that you know dh would object to. then sit down and have a compromise on both of them conversation, you can then go back to scarlett and he has to change the boys name.

devious, but it might work

stepfordwife · 20/06/2008 16:11

no

Nancy66 · 20/06/2008 17:04

I think it's horrible. It sounds like a shop or something.

I don't particularly like Scarlet either, there seems to be too many of them.

fleacircus · 20/06/2008 17:08

Your potential DS will go through life saying "no, it's 'Ry-co'" every time he is introduced to anyone. It depends how you think he'll feel about that, really.

babytime · 20/06/2008 17:09

I love the name Scarlett

Ryco sounds pretentious and "a trying too hard" name.

Keep it real with an old fashioned name for a boy. Boys need a good strong name like Jack or Thomas - imagine little boy with scruffy hair, grubby knees climbing a tree...

"Get down Jack"

or

"Get down Ry-co"

I like first

Doobydoo · 20/06/2008 17:10

Like em.I f ds2 was girl would have been Nancy but did think about Scarlett.
Are you sure you want to know what people think

myfeethurt · 20/06/2008 18:00

Terrible - Scarlett on the other hand is a fantastic name

ButterflyMcQueen · 20/06/2008 18:02

i like it

get down jack - 19 children get down

Romy7 · 20/06/2008 18:05

please have a girl.

unfitmother · 20/06/2008 18:05

Let's hope it's a girl!

Blandmum · 20/06/2008 18:08

Please have a girl. your choice of boys name looks like a name for a new type of Drain cleaner

EachPeachPearMum · 20/06/2008 20:15

Ricoh make photocopiers

LyraSilvertongue · 20/06/2008 20:21

Terrible name. And he can't saddle your poor DS with a name his own mother hates. It's not fair. Make him reconsider!

Yurtgirl · 20/06/2008 20:24

Caitlin, Jake and Scarlett are lovely names

Reijko is ridiculous

Yurtgirl · 20/06/2008 20:26

I just googled Reijko - this thread was third in the list

thumbwitch · 21/06/2008 01:15

Reijko looks like some kind of Japanese martial art and sounds like a haulage company.
If your DH is English then there is absolutely no need to saddle your child with a wholly inappropriate name - people will forever be asking where he comes from or being surprised that he isn't Japanese/ Scandinavian or whatever.
Having a name that no one can spell is a royal PITA forever; and it rhymes with psycho so you can imagine what fun he will have at school...

sweetkitty · 21/06/2008 06:50

Honestly don't like it and don't think it fits with your other names.

Expect a lot of raised eyebrows, having to spell it out and "you called him whats?"

champagneandroses · 22/06/2008 11:40

Reijko soulds a bit odd, could you not have Rocco. I love the name Scarlett!

BandofMothers · 22/06/2008 11:43

Just because you said you'd name a girl and he a boy doesn't mean that he can pick something you dont like, I think it should still be something you both agree on.

champagneandroses · 22/06/2008 11:43

just remembered what it reminds me of reiki that head massage technique

SummerC · 22/06/2008 12:57

I pray you have a girl. Reijko? Wasn't he a boxer? That's the only other use of the name I've heard. Yikes!
