Looking for positive views on our baby name choices Damien and Lilith

We've decided on Damien if it's a boy and Lilith if it's a girl. Both sides have been so negative about these choices so just looking for a little positivity.

they both have links to certain beliefs, if you are ok with that then fine, but be aware

@Pasta4Dinner "I wouldn’t use Lilith anymore, it’s popular with a certain community now."

When you say you wouldn't use it now, what do you mean? I'm nearly 70 and have never met anyone called it. What community are you talking about? Am I missing something here?

Onefortheroad25 · Yesterday 17:02

They are shit names. Don’t saddle your kids with them. So selfish.

Oh I know, I've just like the name since I was 10 and been talking about it since I was 10. Not sure why everyone in the family seems to be surprised by this tbh. It's not like you get people having a meltdown over the Adrian or Adam. Apparently a meh movie from the 70's left such an imprint.

Did anyone in your family actually have a meltdown? Or are they just saying they don’t like the name?

To be fair I’d be much more shocked if someone told me they were calling their new baby Adrian 🤣

I actually really like the name Lilith. I know it has "dark" associations but she did refuse to submit to Adam and demanded equality. Some posters are saying it's old fashioned but I've never met anyone called it. Plenty of Lilians though. Don't like Damian, regardless of any connotations.

That's why I love it. She is such a powerful character in mythology and so unappreciated.

I know a Jewish couple who used Lilith. She's sweet. I admit I did think of the evil connection when I heard her name but to my knowledge it's never caused her problems.

I think either name is OK alone, although wouldn't be my choice, but not together.

BloodyHellBob · Yesterday 17:14

I’m not a fan of Damien because I know one who’s an utter twat but I like Lilith and the story behind her!

Yes, it's a strong and attractive name. It symbolises a refusal to yield to the patriarchy. I considered it if I had a daughter but I didn't.

My MIL is taking it the worst, apparently she didn't learn from her son not talking to her for 4 years. They've only been back in contact a few months and it slipped out. FIL hasn't even been told.

I did put my foot down with my mother and reminded her of all the criticism my babcia gave her, that definitely hit home.

Oh yeah we aren't changing our minds. If they're going to be AH then it does give me rise to wonder whether it's productive to have that negativity around. You'd think family would at least have support you in something.

You'd think family would at least have support you in something.

But maybe not something an innocent child will bear the brunt of.

I'd be putting in a word for my grandchild too. Go MIL I say ...

There is nothing clever or impressive about saddling your dc with a name with negative baggage.

ETA I mean if this is real, you are obviously a bit worried about doing it, or you wouldn't have come here asking for positive opinions - which I think is your better judgment coming through.

Yeah when she puts a word in for the grandchild that was named after a Mortal Kombat character and actively gets kicked by the baby daddy then she can give us a lecture.

your moms chest hair!

I actually like the name Lilith. It flows nicely off the tongue, and has a really pretty feel to it (despite the ‘dark connotation’).

Not so much Damien…ugly sounding name! 😖 I taught one once…he was an unpleasant boy, so maybe this is colouring my view…but I don’t think so 😬

(edited for typo)

Sorry I can't

Pasta4Dinner · Yesterday 20:13

Ok so I know of 2 teenage boys now called Lilith, apparently it’s a very popular choice for trans women to use.

That's interesting because I know of a Lilith that has transitioned and now uses a very basic male name.

They’re awful.
