Aurora, Avery and Pipe are the best!

I’m baffled by anyone using Piper as a name. It just conjures up a bagpiper puffing. I admire their skill, but it’s not that aesthetically pleasing a look. (See also trumpeters, oboists etc).

It makes me think of pipes as in waterworks.

Makes me think of the Piper Alpha disaster

I love Aurora!

FatRosie · 24/04/2026 14:19

CeciliaMars · 24/04/2026 14:18

I love Aurora!

Owowuh.

JackandVictor · 24/04/2026 14:25

Harper, Piper and Autumn were all on my list for my now 18 year old. Still all lovely and underused in my opinion.

Nova and Savannah are awful. Darcie and Sienna are really popular here and all of them I have met are brats 😅 Avery makes me think of Aviary and therefore bird poop 😳

Glitterbiscuits · 24/04/2026 14:29

Are you American OP? They sound like names I’d hear in an American teen movie.
There’s Harper at my school but her father can’t say H, so he greets her with
All right Arp?

Wynter25 · 24/04/2026 14:33

Love aurora. Ive got an aurora. Rory for short.

Wynter25 · 24/04/2026 14:34

FatRosie · 24/04/2026 14:19

Owowuh.

🙄

FatRosie · 24/04/2026 14:35

Wynter25 · 24/04/2026 14:34

🙄

it's what it sounds like if you can't say R and many people especially little children can't.

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/04/2026 14:39

I don't like any of them.

"No va" in spanish means "doesn't go".
I know a male Piper.

OldieButBaddie · 24/04/2026 14:42

They sound American, are you in the US?

Harper - Old man's name (for me, I know an old American bloke called this!)
Summer - No, I know a Summer and it's just not a good name IMO
Darcie - sweet
Autumn - No
Sienna - Not a fan but not awful
Aurora - No
Skylar - Breaking Bad/All aboard the
Avery - A wine merchant
Piper - hideous noises from a bag
Nova - I had a Vauxhall Nova so NO
Savannah - OK but I wouldn't use it

Suggestions
if you like seasons how about months?
April, May and June are all girls names
Skye instead of Skylar
Noa instead of Nova
Georgia instead of Savannah

Elouise
Celeste

Not to my taste, but none are horrible, just regular names for these days.

Aurelia always makes me think of Aureola, sorry!

DailyRitual · 24/04/2026 08:26

Your taste isn’t mine. I’d read these as ‘Slightly dated American’?

Aurora if I had to, but I think a lot of people find it tricky to pronounce with the ‘r’s and the ‘au’ and ‘o’ sounds.

I agree with slightly dated American names. I’m not keen on any of them apart from Avery. I know one and she’s lovely (American!)

examworries2026 · 24/04/2026 14:56

My DD is 15 and there are 5 siennas (and some variations) in her school year, it really feels like a name that peaked at that time, I think I know about 15!

youalright · 24/04/2026 15:01

My favourite is Skylar my least favourite is Piper

CurlewKate · 24/04/2026 15:09

I don’t like any of them-I’m sorry. If I had to pick-maybe Piper?

Yes, they’re all a bit meh to me. Don’t particularly like any of them but don’t hate any either. Not keen on Aurora as I couldn't imagine having to keep saying it.

I always imagine it was mums who admired Sienna Miller who called their DD that, and I think that timing fits. The girls I know who are Sienna are that sort of age too - kind of 10 to 20.

FatRosie · 24/04/2026 15:42

Elouise is awful. it's like a mishmash of Eloise and Louise and just looks like you can't spell.

Ansjovis · 24/04/2026 16:01

For me, Darcy (with this spelling) is clearly the best of the bunch. The rest are, to me, reminiscent of what we might see on an American baby name list in the 2010s.

Poorabbeywalsh2 · 24/04/2026 16:07

Nova

PissOffJeffrey · 24/04/2026 16:10

I get to see names of new born babies at work and here, in the midlands, every second baby girl is either Aurora or Aurelia at the moment. Both nice names but very popular.

Harper - OK. Has quite a modern “trendy” vibe.
Summer - no. Same vibe as Jayden/Kayden.
Darcie - always seemed too “fussy” for me.
Autumn - OK.
Sienna - nice.
Skylar - no. Same vibe as Summer.
Avery - I only know of a boy named this. Not awful but I probably wouldn’t choose it myself.
Piper - no. Same vibe as Harper. Not the worst name but not great either.
Nova - sorry, I’m old enough for this to always be a car.
Savannah - love it. It was on my list but DH vetoed it.
