Tracy and Sharon.
And after the way it's now been linked as an insult, Karen.

Side note, I gave my daughter a very lovely but very granny first name. Since she’s been a teen she’s chosen to go by a different name.

Haha, this is what I was going to say.

There is a 6 year old Myra over the road from us, I work with a 42 year old Myra as well, so it's not completely gone away.

Notashamed13 · 22/04/2026 22:22

Definitely Gemma.

I reckon Elaine. There were five in my primary school class, but it lost popularity really quickly and has yet to make a comeback.

I know a dog named Elaine, she's really lovely.

Was she really a Queenie, or an Elizabeth or Victoria or Alexandra or even Mary with Queenie as a diminutive?

Actually I think you’re onto something with Ghislaine - it might be like Adolf or Ebenezer - both actually themselves common names at the time that never shook the association with the one person.

She was 100% Queenie......her Dad (my Great Grandad? Was a "Jessy" which I think is also unusual for a male name.

Rubyeagle · 22/04/2026 22:31

I like Lettice but people can’t pronounce it correctly.

StephensLass1977 · 22/04/2026 22:32

My best friends at primary school included girls called Clare, Sally, Mandy, among others. Mid to late 80s.

They don't sound especially old fashioned, but if you think about it, you don't really see these names anymore on young people.
