Help with girls names - not long left

Scabadadabadooo · Yesterday 17:47

I've decided to start a new thread with my new top names (I started the blossom one).

Id really appreciate some help with choosing a girls name, I have three weeks left and have gone round and round in circles.
The list is currently
Daphne
Luna
Marigold
Maeve
Elowen
Polly
Flora
Frankie (Francesca)
Lilianna

Daphne is a long term favourite, only hesitation is Daff doesn't appeal.
Luna I think is so pretty but is it substantial enough? Or just a bit trendy?
Marigold - fab nickname options. Fits my nature/flower preference.
Maeve fits our boys names best but we have a short surname starting in F and it kind of blends together.
Elowen - love this but not keen on Ellie
Polly - love, but bit nicknamey next to our other names?
Flora - butter an issue?
Frankie - DH fave but I'm not totally sold. Worried about Fran
Lilianna - bit frilly, I like Lily but find Lily too popular. Like the option of Annie too.

Any views welcome!

If Maeve doesn't go with your surname, how about Maeva?

LilyLemonade · Yesterday 20:41

I think Daphne and Flora are both lovely, classic, elegant names which suit both a child and an adult.
In general I think you have a lovely list. I'm not keen on Marigold personally but it seems to be trendy.
As alternatives, what about Callista or Bryony.

I love Marigold!

Why is blossom off the list?

I've had so many bad reactions to Blossom. I still love it, but I worry about burdening her.
I feel like Marigold sounds more like an established name and also has a few good nickname options that are low key if she wants.

I'm glad quite a few people have said they like Marigold as I think it's my favourite!

I love Callista, nickname Callie, but we have a Cillian and I thought it was maybe too close.
I've tried to avoid the initials of my other kids (R, C and T)
Bryony is the name of someone I know (and don't really like) so that's out. Thanks for the ideas.

You love it. People just aren't used to it that's all. They soon would be.

Iona

Azalea

Sophia

NamingNoNames · Yesterday 21:41

Is Lena pronounced Layna or Leena? I quite like it.
My DH vetoed Primrose due to the Prim bit. Although he also vetoed Marigold originally but he's kind of come round to it.

Take your list to the park (a big one) and holler these names to an imaginary toddler who has run off and won't come back. Really shout, like you've repeated yourself nicely 325 times and are now at the end of your tether.

Eenameenadeeka · Today 08:34

I like Maeve. I think I'd pick Lillian over Lilianna.

I have a Cillian so Lillian is too rhymey. Lily was the name of my grandma so we quite like the idea of naming after her, but Lily is sooo popular I was trying to make it a bit different.

I wish I could get as excited by Maeve, it's a lovely soft name, I also like May for short and she's a May baby. But it feels a bit dull compared to some of my others.

I like Marigold, Daphne, Elowen and Flora. I would personally gone with Marigold out of these.

Is Marigold wearable for a teen? Do you think it could be an embarrassing name?
That's my only concern with it. I love it for a baby and small child, just trying to imagine her at secondary school. I don't think I've ever met a Marigold!

... but Lily is sooo popular I was trying to make it a bit different. Which is what it looks like - Lily with frills. Lily is much nicer as it is.

I can't see a teenage Marigold. Rubber gloves are wearable Smile

The rubber glove thing doesn't really bother me. My kids have no idea what Marigolds gloves are, and I've never called them Marigolds. Maybe it's a regional thing. I barely wash up, let alone wear gloves!

I don't wear marigolds because of the pink colour and price, but it's a well-known brand name.

I don't use Ariel but I think people would think of the washing powder not the shakespearean character.

I think this is really funny, because Marigolds are yellow, like a marigold flower!

Name are so personal, you have people on here both loving and hating the same name.
Personally I really dislike Maeve, because I can only hear it said in a certain accent which makes it sound awful. But that is my opinion and others love it.

Go with what you like. If you like Blossom, use it.
I am an ex teacher and honestly nowadays you have children with all kinds of names in a class. No-one gets teased because of a name. If they are going to tease, they will find something, anything to tease about. They will even take a perfectly traditional inoffensive name and turn it into a tease.

Just be prepared that if you have a more 'out there' name, your teen may choose their own nickname that they prefer, and that is ok too.

I love Marigold. I think Daphne is a great name. Personally I think Luna is very over used, and for Polly I would use a longer name with Polly as a shortening, but that is me, I am not you. If you like them go for them.

Thatpastalife · Today 11:01

My friends little girl is called Elliana a bit like Liliana but less popular with the Lily nickname, Daphne is my favourite from your lovely list. Xx

Ellie is overused as are names starting with El. i don't see how you get Lily from Elliana. The Eliana spelling is much more popular than Elliana.

piddleandriddle · Today 11:28

Annie- on the comeback
Daphne - really not a fan
Luna - pretty but popular
Marigold - reminds me of the washing up gloves. Mirabel?
Maeve - bit boring - Margot?
Elowen - nickname could be Winnie or wenna
Polly - love it
Flora - such a boring name. What about alora?
Frankie - it’s cute I know a few
Lilianna - what about lilia, Lilah, laylah, Lola
