I like Toby - my Mums beautiful boxer was called Toby. Only problem up here in Scotland it that its aother name for a willy - so couldn't use it.

OverMyDeadBody · 19/06/2008 09:59

My immediate reaction is to think of an american, not sure why though. I don't personally like it and think there are nicer names out there for boys

hf128219 · 19/06/2008 10:04

I think of a posh little boy.

branflake81 · 19/06/2008 10:05

I think posh, cream trousers, brown deck shoes, floppy hair, says "yah" a lot.

Nancy66 · 19/06/2008 10:07

I think of someone that's a complete drip.

lisalisa · 19/06/2008 10:08

I htink posh too although not a drip

LuLuBai · 19/06/2008 10:09

I think it's a great name. A robust sounding boys name which is cute on a little toddler and grows up well too. And pretty unlikely to get shortened too.

I think of the two little boys I know called Toby. Both are completely normal, standard nice little boys. I really like the name. Doesn't strike me as particularly posh, or any of your options. I would probably say it was a classic, perhaps with just the slightest hint of poshness rather than the opposite.

PestoMonster · 19/06/2008 10:10

It reminds me of the little jugs my grandma used to have on either end of her mantelpiece. But don't let that bother you...

There is a Tobey (with an e like the spiderman guy) in DS1's class. He is a cute little kid with shoulder length blonde hair. Sporty and well liked. Makes me think of him.

EachPeachPearMum · 19/06/2008 11:00

The only Toby I knew was a horrible little boy who pushed my little brother down a flight of stairs because db refused to urinate down them (they were 4 btw).
He was a complete oik, and wasn't in the least bit well-off- lived on a 60s council estate.

Sorry- but thats really personal!

LunarSea · 19/06/2008 11:07

Am biased as we've got a Toby - although he's officially a Tobias. Have got an Oliver too, from before it got so popular so we obviously share the same taste in names.

There's a current England Rugby player called Toby if that's a better image for you.

Other classic names - Alexander, Edward, Henry, Samuel. I think Arthur is due for a comeback (couldn't use it though as too close in sound to Oliver).
