Honestly no.
In the uk the name sounds masculine.
also theres nothing wrong with it but its not a nice name particularly

101Alsatians · 25/03/2026 13:33

No sorry,it sounds like a surname to me.

Nannyfannybanny · 25/03/2026 13:33

Sounds like a London borough.

RoseField1 · 25/03/2026 13:34

Didn't you already post this thread yesterday?

DaisyChain505 · 25/03/2026 13:35

You already posted, you got peoples opinions.

Dalmationday · 25/03/2026 13:35

Awful. Sounds like a surname or Ikea furniture

Roaminginthegloaming · 25/03/2026 13:52

Awful - and she will get called Nelly for short

Johnogroats · 25/03/2026 13:53

It’s a no from me. Never heard of it!

ImImmortalNowBabyDoll · 25/03/2026 13:54

No, it's horrible. It doesn't look nice written down, it doesn't sound nice said aloud. The only associations that come with it are needles and knees.

SuperMarioToadPrincessPeach · 25/03/2026 13:56

Haven’t you asked this already?

domenica1 · 25/03/2026 13:57

It’s a slightly old fashioned Indian name I think — so you won’t meet many other baby Neelams but you may meet some middle aged aunties or grannies. I knew one or two at school but none among my girls’ friends. If you like it it’s fine though, hopefully she will too

thereare4lights · 25/03/2026 13:58

Makes me think of Negan from The Walking Dead. So no.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/03/2026 13:58

Why have you started a second thread on the same subject, @KarolGFan?

Here.

Laiste · 25/03/2026 14:02

I'm sorry i don't like it.

Out of interest are you pronouncing it:
Knee-lamb with a drawn out aaaaa

or

Knee'lum with a quick LM ?

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 25/03/2026 14:05

No I don’t like it. It does sound like ikea furniture

Pemba · 25/03/2026 14:09

It's OK, certainly not horrible but not gorgeous either. I don't have any particular associations with it, just vaguely aware of it as an Indian name. Suppose it could be nice if you have good associations, the sound of it is not unpleasant.

honeylulu · 25/03/2026 14:10

It sounds quite masculine, like a compound of Neil and Liam. Or maybe people would think you had made up the name because you were a Liam Neeson fan or something.

I'm sure you can find something you like as much but which is prettier.

Pemba · 25/03/2026 14:14

Sorry but I find some posters' reactions so thick and small minded, dragging up anything that sounds vaguely like it, just because it's outside their frame of reference. Their world is small...

Pemba · 25/03/2026 14:15

But it often happens on the Baby Names board. I don't think it would happen so much in real life.

sophiasmithh · 25/03/2026 14:21

Neelam is a beautiful and timeless name with a soft, pleasant sound. It also carries a lovely meaning, which can make it even more special for a daughter. Choosing a name that resonates personally is important, and Neelam seems like it would be a meaningful and charming choice for your little one.

ERthree · 25/03/2026 14:26

Wouldn't be my choice but i would use Neela

BillieWiper · 25/03/2026 14:31

In the UK amongst non Asians I think it sounds quite similar to the male name Neil.
But if it has family or cultural significance then go for it.

Ineedtoseetobelieve32 · 25/03/2026 14:32

No

OnceUponATimed · 25/03/2026 14:34

I know a lovely Neelam and like it!

Emeraldforest · 26/03/2026 19:03

I had an Indian work colleague called Neelam, nothing wrong with it.
Is it old fashioned...so what, plenty of trad English names still in use.
