Love both Eloise and Lydia - Eloise just tipped it for me.

cramptramp · 19/03/2026 11:14

Lydia.

NamingNoNames · 19/03/2026 11:15

I find Eloise a fit frilly. Lois is similar but without the frills.

AgentPidge · 19/03/2026 11:19

There seems to be loads of little girls called Evie and Eva round here. Eve is nice but for that reason I'd probably avoid it. I like all your others apart from Nora. Please don't. It's awful. Nora Batty!

BunnyLake · 19/03/2026 11:43

I like Lydia and Eve. Both are classy and make me think of beautiful, strong, confident Edwardian ladies for some reason.

HaroldMeaker · 19/03/2026 11:51

I think Nora is sweet

FallenNight · 19/03/2026 11:55

Eve - but like Evelyn even more.

NannyOf8Girls · 19/03/2026 11:56

Leah or Eve

wishingonastar101 · 19/03/2026 12:10

All very common names here in London... except Nora (which I'm not keen on).

FallenNight · 19/03/2026 11:55

Eve - but like Evelyn even more.

I don't like Evelyn. Eve is so nice and needs no embellishment.
I like Jill but not Gillian, Ann but not Annette etc.

I don't mind Norah but it seems granny-ish like Eileen or Beryl.

FishingInTheRiversOfLife · 19/03/2026 12:25

Eloise is perfection. I love it. Dislike the others.

MiddleAgedDread · 19/03/2026 12:32

I'm surprised by the love for Eloise, it literally makes me cringe!
Lydia or Leah would make a refreshing change.

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 19/03/2026 12:55

EVERY OTHER child is Eloise.

I’d go with Lydia.

amy480 · 19/03/2026 13:25

I love the simplicity and classiness of Eve. I think it’s my fave of your options.

I know 2 Eloise’s (both lovely!) 1 of which goes by the name Ella, she’s in her 20s and has never used her full name. I know a few Elodie’s too which also seems to be growing in popularity.

Lydia I just don’t like the sound of, it sounds harsh to my ears for some reason and I think of Aunt Lydia from Handmaid’s Tale but that’s just me, lots of people seem to love it!

MsSmartShoes · 19/03/2026 13:27

I love Nora, Leah, and Lydia.

Not at all keen on Ruby - it makes me think of a busty, brash barmaid.

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 19/03/2026 12:55

EVERY OTHER child is Eloise.

I’d go with Lydia.

That's rather an exaggeration!!!

I am long-deep in child-rearing years and I've only met two, they'd be 16 and 12 now. Perhaps it's regional. It's still lovelier than the other names listed, imho.

NamingNoNames · 19/03/2026 16:01

Eloise has been fairly constant in its popularity.
I only know 1 and she's no longer a child. She was intended to be an Ellie but it didn't stick.

There being so many Ellie names also puts me off it.

RegalDiamondMonster · 19/03/2026 18:38

It's funny how many references there are to Nora Batty, and one to a song written by someone called Barry in 1968! I just don't think those references will resonate with anyone young enough to be giving birth this year.

I voted Lydia with Leah a close second.

NamingNoNames · 19/03/2026 18:57

@RegalDiamondMonster , you never know. Songs get cover versions. Eloise was in the charts in 1985 or 1986.
When I was a kid Dad would listen to songs from his teenage years in the car.

mathanxiety · 20/03/2026 02:54

I voted for Nora - lovely, timeless name.

I also like Eve.

NamingNoNames · 20/03/2026 09:17

I voted for Nora - lovely, timeless name. It's neither lovely nor timeless. It was originally a diminutive, I think.

Pettenell · 20/03/2026 09:49

I voted for Lydia, but depending on how it sounds with the surname, and my mood on the day, I could just as easily have chosen Eloise, Leah or Ruby.
