Elizabeth Rose or Genevieve Rose?

TheMellowPinkSnake · 22/01/2026 21:04

I’m choosing between two names and can’t decide because I genuinely find both beautiful in different ways, so I wanted to hear some outside opinions. Which name do you think is prettier overall: Elizabeth Rose or Genevieve Rose? Feel free to share why or what kind of vibe each one gives you.

Totally subjective but I really dislike Genevieve

Norastroud · 22/01/2026 21:16

Both beautiful names - I personally prefer Elizabeth with nn Libby, Eliza, Betsy. Both are quite long names so will probably be shortened at some point, maybe have a think about which abbreviations you prefer.
Best of luck!

DuchessOfNarcissex · 22/01/2026 21:27

Use both and ditch Rose. I like Elizabeth but not Genevieve.

Moreteaandchocolate · 22/01/2026 21:36

Both are beautiful. I went for Elizabeth because it’s so versatile with so many beautiful shortenings, I personally love Beth, Libby and Eliza.
Genevieve is more unusual but the nn’s are popular shortenings of other names (Jenny, Evie etc) so you’d have to explain that she’s not Jennifer / Evelyn etc

Anothermanechange · 22/01/2026 21:48

I like Genevieve with the nickname Genie.
I find Elizabeth a bit boring but I do really like Beth.

Marcipix · 22/01/2026 21:50

Elizabeth Rose 🌹

Rachie1973 · 22/01/2026 21:51

I love both! Genevieve is more unusual though xx

Snugglemonkey · 22/01/2026 21:53

I love Genevieve and would nickname Vivi if we chose this. It would be easy to establish as she won't be able to say her name easily, so if you give her Vivi, she eill use it. Then she will introduce herself as Vivi and so it rolls until both are her name.

Maybe you do not like Vivi, which is fair enough, but do you like any other shortenings, because she will get some kind of nn given length.

grangehilltuba · 22/01/2026 21:57

I reckon Elizabeth. I like a name where a child can pick their shortening depending on their own preferences as they get older, she could be a Libby, Lizzy, Betty, Betsy, or even Buffy 😆 Or stay as Elizabeth which is very elegant.

Genevieve I’m less of a fan of, although I suppose it ticks the box of having a lot of short versions, I just don’t think they’re as good as Elizabeth. Also not a fan of the fact it has no hard consonants in at all (unless you pronounce the first letter as a hard ‘J’) so it’s a bit ‘wispy’ to me. But this is purely subjective and it is a perfectly usable and fine name- I’m probably the wrong person to comment as I like names that sound like the bearer could wield an axe fearsomely in battle 😆 Elizabeth ticks that box for me because it’s regal.

In your shoes, as you love both, I’d go with Elizabeth Genevieve and ditch Rose altogether unless it holds a special meaning for you. Elizabeth Genevieve is a mouthful but I really like the two together for some reason, more than I like them individually, I think they’re add something to each other.

LilyEmmeline · 22/01/2026 21:58

Unless you have a friend or relative who’s called Rose whom you’re honouring, I’d ditch it as a middle name (as along with May and Grace it’s become this generations very generic sounding choice - the Jane or Louise of middle names of previous generations).

Rose would make a beautiful classic first name choice though - Rose Elizabeth sounds especially lovely imo. Or if that’s not your taste then how about Elizabeth Genevieve? - 4 syllables then 3 often flows quite well (dependant on surname, and maybe don’t use if your surname also starts with a G). Plus then you have the ultimate timeless first name (Elizabeth) combined with something more interesting/uncommon (Genevieve).

ETA: Crossposted with PP! 🤣

Sevenpeaks · 22/01/2026 22:02

I think Elizabeth Rose is just beautiful! Not so keen on Genevieve.

Curlysusie · 22/01/2026 22:07

Elizabeth Rose/Rose Elizabeth

DuchessOfNarcissex · 22/01/2026 22:09

Rose as a first name is a lot better than as a middle name. It has the advantage of being short (although Rosie might happen).

I don't like Beth and Vivi makes me think of vivisection.

User6761 · 22/01/2026 22:10

Of those names I'd actually choose from:

Rose Elizabeth
Rose Genevieve
Elizabeth Genevieve

Crumbelina · 22/01/2026 22:12

Elizabeth Rose! Beautiful and timeless. I also love Elizabeth Rosa.

Pettenell · 22/01/2026 22:29

I like Elizabeth but I love Genevieve. I think Genevieve is less likely to be shortened, and is much less used. Genevieve is quite beautiful!

TheLette · 22/01/2026 22:34

Elizabeth, although pick a shortened version early on unless you want to always use the full name (speaking from experience! Mine has a ridiculous nickname and now wants a proper one, which is reasonable but none of them feel right as she's always had her ridiculous nickname)

user1492757084 · 23/01/2026 07:50

Elisheva Rose perhaps would suit.
Or
Elizaveta Rose

I prefer Elizabeth but I like Genevieve too.

thinkofsomethingdifferent · 23/01/2026 08:06

Can you tell what my children’s middle names are, and what my partner did for a living Smile

Elizabeth Rose or Genevieve Rose?
Jennyginger · 23/01/2026 08:15

I fully understand why you don’t give your surname, but that’s the vital factor. Unless you mean you are always going to call her "Firstname Rose", very few people in her life will ever even know what her middle name is. She’ll just be known as Firstname Snake, so I would just focus on that. For instance, Genevieve Jenrick or Elizabeth Lister sounds daft to me, but would both be fine the other way round.

MonsteraDeliciosa · 23/01/2026 11:02

Find Elizabeth a bit boring, personally; Genevieve has a bit more zing to it.

And as others have said, Rose makes for an overused middle name, but a lovely first name. My DD had middle name Rose, but decided to go by Rose as her first name.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 23/01/2026 11:12

I think Genevieve sounds stodgy.

Baguetteandcheese · 23/01/2026 12:03

Elizabeth. So bored of Rose as a middle name though. Unless it has any significance she’ll be one of a hundred ‘something’ Rose.

TappyGilmore · 23/01/2026 12:12

Well if you’re going for “pretty” I wouldn’t consider Elizabeth pretty at all. It’s a good, strong, classic name, and has the advantage of having lots of different abbreviations that come from it … but pretty it is not. Libby is a bit prettier, or Lizzie perhaps.

viques · 23/01/2026 12:16

Genevieve as a first name will be a lifetime of mis spelling. My ( now adult) daughter is called Rebecca which I thought was pretty bullet proof. how wrong was I.
