Elizabeth Rose or Genevieve Rose?

I’m choosing between two names and can’t decide because I genuinely find both beautiful in different ways, so I wanted to hear some outside opinions. Which name do you think is prettier overall: Elizabeth Rose or Genevieve Rose? Feel free to share why or what kind of vibe each one gives you.

Well if you’re going for “pretty” I wouldn’t consider Elizabeth pretty at all. It’s a good, strong, classic name, and has the advantage of having lots of different abbreviations that come from it … but pretty it is not. Libby is a bit prettier, or Lizzie perhaps.

Your idea of pretty is different to mine. Libby isn't pretty but it sounds 'sensible'.

Lilithgolightly · 23/01/2026 14:45

Elizabeth Rose flows nicely, easy to say.
Genevieve Rose, especially if pronounced the way it is in the UK, doesn't flow, sounds, to my ear anyway, plain not pretty like Elizabeth Rose.

lizzohadsome · 23/01/2026 14:48

Elizabeth Rose 100%

ForsterMcLennan · 23/01/2026 17:54

Elizabeth - just that, no Rose. I actively dislike the name Genevieve as it sounds like it’s trying to be high falutin’ when it’s actually not a very nice sounding name to say (esp if you’re in the UK and you use the hard G). Elizabeth has the best shortened versions too - Libby, Betty, Betsy, Liza etc etc etc.

Calliopespa · 23/01/2026 17:57

Both lovely. I marginally prefer Elizabeth.

Betsy is cute as a nn ...

Soozikinzii · 23/01/2026 18:08

I love Genevieve and its DHs favourite name .

ginasevern · 23/01/2026 18:21

I like both but probably lean towards Elizabeth more.

GoldenMirrors · 23/01/2026 18:43

I know two Genevieve’s and they both go by Gigi

lemoncrisp · 23/01/2026 18:44

Love both. Slightly lean to Genevieve more because it's more unusual but Elizabeth has always been my absolute favourite name. (Dds second name and slightly regret not using it as her first name.)

BitterTits · 23/01/2026 18:45

Rose is twee though.

FoodYummyFood · 23/01/2026 19:15

My names Genevieve, it got shortened a lot at school to Gen/Vivi but now I'm an adult most people call me Genevieve or nn Gen (if I've said they can!)
You do spend your whole life spelling it and I learnt the phonetic alphabet so I could spell my name to people but apart from that I love my name

Bingbongsingalong · 23/01/2026 19:57

Drop Rose entirely as a middle name, it feels like every girl born in the last 10 years has Rose as a middle name. My daughter is called Rose, and she gets fed up with every girl she meets saying to her 'that's my middle name!' 😆 It is such a pretty name, which clearly people like hence the overuse for middle names, but not many people seem to want to commit to it as a first name for some reason!

So for that reason, I say either
Rose Elizabeth
Rose Genevieve
Elizabeth Genevieve
Genevieve Elizabeth

Joanne73460 · 23/01/2026 20:00

Absolutely love Genevieve Rose I would have had this name if I hadn't had boys very classy and sophisticated in my opinion

VerityUnreasonble · 23/01/2026 20:14

I'm never quite sure how to pronounce Genevieve, is it "Jenna-veeve" or more like "Juh-nuh-vi-ev" or somewhere in between? "Juh-nuh-veeve" or even more like "Jzohn-a-veeve"

I'd probably just go with Elizabeth and use one of the many nice diminutives. Personally I like Libby.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 23/01/2026 20:24

@VerityUnreasonble ,Jennuh-veev.
The French Geneviève is more like zhuh-nuv-ee-ev
(ʒənvjɛv).

snowdrop75 · 23/01/2026 20:27

I love Genevieve

AgnesMcDoo · 23/01/2026 20:31

I love Elizabeth

Odditea · 23/01/2026 21:11

I think you need to think about what they could inevitably be shortened to e.g. Liz/Lizzie/Beth or Gen/Genie/Eve? Personally I prefer Genevieve

user1492757084 · 24/01/2026 08:00

Do you like ..

Elizabeth Jean
Rose Gwennetta
Eliza Genevieve

MelrosePlace12 · 24/01/2026 12:11

Elizabeth! Or may I suggest Eliza?

We've an Eliza Alice (full name, not shortened from Elizabeth) and get lots of compliments. Classic but spunky! She goes by nn. Lulu or Liza also.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 24/01/2026 12:34

Gwennetta???

WulfWulfBeare · 24/01/2026 16:47

Elizabeth is a bit boring, but a good classic name that nobody can be ashamed of. Genevieve sounds like King Arthur’s second wife.

ForsterMcLennan · 24/01/2026 17:37

DuchessOfNarcissex · 24/01/2026 12:34

Gwennetta???

It sounds like a Welsh-Italian ice cream dessert from the 70s.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 24/01/2026 17:41

Inspired by the Slobs? Just the pud after a Spudulike.
