Jude Jones for baby boy?

quillo · 16/01/2026 12:27

Working through boy names for our baby and Jude is stuck in my head. Surname Jones.

Others we like: Julian, Kieran, Elliot, Theo, Lucas, Felix

Any strong vibes either way for Jude or the Jones surname pairing?

Thanks!

I love the alliteration and the name Jude so it's a yes from me!

ScaredOfFlying · 16/01/2026 12:29

Emma Bunton’s husband is Jade Jones. I think he was in a boy band?

MiddleAgedDread · 16/01/2026 12:29

I don't like Jude and I like Jude Jones even less I'm afraid! I think you also need to be prepared for the nickname JJ.
Apart from Julian (awfully dated "wet" name) the others in your list are much better.

StrawberryJangle · 16/01/2026 12:31

I don't mind it but it is one of those names/phrases/whatever that ties my mouth up - I'll end up saying Joo Jones, Joojuns..
That's probably just me though!

I like Felix, probably due to their 90s house hit!

This!

Moreteaandchocolate · 16/01/2026 12:39

I like Jude Jones!
From your other ideas, I like them all except Julian, but would avoid Theo and possibly Lucas with the surname Jones, as they are so popular and there could end up being another Theo Jones in his year / workplace etc

floppybit · 16/01/2026 12:40

I like it 👍

Bramble88 · 16/01/2026 12:42

i like it, imagine him to be a cheeky chap!

Enko · 16/01/2026 12:42

I find it harsh to say

Cocktailsandcheese · 16/01/2026 12:50

I do like it, but find the 2 names together a bit jarring to say

RaininSummer · 16/01/2026 13:03

I like it. Sounds like a cool dude.

Onefortheroad25 · 16/01/2026 13:05

I like it. I like all your names except Felix and worse again..the dreaded Julian.

FerrisWheelsandLilacs · 16/01/2026 13:06

I know a Jude Jones, so seems okay to me.

AgentPidge · 16/01/2026 13:06

It's a great name!

MostlyGhostly · 16/01/2026 13:07

I really like it.

HugoYorway · 16/01/2026 13:07

Jude is very popular, and on the rise. He'll probably be one of several.
Baby name explorer - Jude and Jones is a common surname.
The names don't flow.

James Jones is better.

That. The D at the end of Jude will end up being silent for most speakers. It's really quite hard to articulate the end of the first name separately from the beginning of the surname. So that would put me off the name.

PorkPieandPickle · 16/01/2026 13:17

There’s a footballer called Jodi Jones, I think the vowel sound at the end of Jodi makes it work better with Jones.

surreygirly · 16/01/2026 13:22

If I called my lad that I would expect him to disown me lol

Upsetbetty · 16/01/2026 13:25

Is it the alliteration you like or the name Jude?

I like it.

other options
Jonah Jones
Jamie Jones
Jack Jones
Jacob Jones

Pineneedlesincarpet · 16/01/2026 13:27

I do like Jude. It is cool. But it does have sad connotations (Jude the Obscure, Judas). Like naming your child Ophelia.

July2026mumma · 16/01/2026 13:35

Jude is quite popular at the moment where I live in UK but

Jude Jones does sound like a cool dude… I like that

Calliopespa · 16/01/2026 13:39

I don't have the love for Jude that some seem to have, but it isn't a name that would make me think "how awful." One of the things I like least is knowing some friends of my DM and GM called Judith who go by Jude, so it has a slight old lady vibe for me.

Nor am I a great lover of very pronounced alliteration, but again, I wouldn't think it was dire.

"It's fine, but not for me" would be my summary.

champagnetrial · 16/01/2026 13:45

I think one syllable last names go better with a 2+ syllable first name. (so eg Bill Smith, no. Billy Smith, yes.)

(Also Jude sounds like rude and is also now a popular bladder supplement (as seen on Dragon's Den!)

Obviously living a very sheltered life there, surrey.
