Surname is Yates.

We haven’t decided on a middle name yet.

I am not a fan. There are a lot of El- names about and also A lot of Lyra, Lilah, Lily, Lola names, so this just gets a bit lost among the others imo.

Calliopespa · 02/01/2026 19:52

It is a "proper" name and I know a couple of Elaras, though I'm not sure why but I really don't like this name. It sounds kind of slimy, like a name for a lizard, but I guess it may work better with different reginal accents. A shorter a sound might counteract that?

What about Eliza?

pambeesleyhalpert · 02/01/2026 19:57

It’s pretty!

Chasbots · 02/01/2026 19:59

It's a model of campervan.

Jk987 · 02/01/2026 20:12

I’m not keen either sorry! It’s a bit of a mouthful similar to Alana. How about Elaine?

This. It's also close to Elora and Lara.

miniaturepixieonacid · 02/01/2026 20:52

I think it's very pretty.

Agree that there are lots of similar names but I wouldn't let that put me off if Elara was the one that I loved.

DizziLizzy · 02/01/2026 20:57

I like it but I love love Elora!

Egglio · 02/01/2026 21:00

I prefer Elise, Elisa.or Eliza.

I'm not keen on Elara, I think Lara is better. Elora is ok.

MrsKateColumbo · 02/01/2026 21:00

Very pretty

Moreteaandchocolate · 02/01/2026 21:02

I think it’s lovely 🥰

sakura06 · 02/01/2026 21:04

I really like it.

Olderbutt · 02/01/2026 21:06

It's ok op but Im sorry, I don't really think it goes with your surname, both names are 'soft'. Your surname goes better with Elodie, Eliza, or similar.

RecoveringChocaholic · 02/01/2026 21:22

Totally biased as I have an Elara. Yet to meet another one. She loves her name and it really suits her.

Digglesthedog · 02/01/2026 21:30

It sounds nice, but I feel like it’s a name of a model of car, like a Toyota or Renault.

It’s nothing like those names. It’s so much nicer

Don't you think? To me, there are so many L sounds and El sounds around at the moment. I work in a school and they do tend to all merge into one (to my ears). Isla, Lilah, Elara, Lola, Lara, Lyra, Eliara, Elora, Ella...

jackstini · 02/01/2026 22:12

I like it
Also like Elena

WarmGreyHare · 02/01/2026 22:19

I don't love it but it's fairly inoffensive, it's not one of those names I'm saying 'oh God no' in my head when I hear it!
It's a bit wafty for me. Looks pretty, but too many vowels. Can you imagine a toddler trying to say it?
Also, I imagine you are likely to find she ends up as Ellie or Lara to a lot of people, if you are happy with that then great, she has options!

Which part of It are you drawn to? Do you like the 'el' names,
Eloise
Elaine,
Alana?

Or the ah sound?

Savannah, Joanna, Brianna etc?

I agree: I think it has lots in common with those types of names.

I think @WarmGreyHare said it best: I don't love it but it's fairly inoffensive, it's not one of those names I'm saying 'oh God no' in my head when I hear it!

I prefer the very classic feel of Eliza.

BoleynMemories13 · 02/01/2026 22:35

I'm another who prefers Lara or Elora. Elara feels like a mash up of the two, to me.

Eliza sounds more lizardy than Elara 😂

I'm not keen on the name itself but do think it sounds nice with your surname op

Yes, you are right actually!

A lot more lizardy.

I guess when I say Eliza, the E sits on its own: EEEE - Liza (the second bit with a long i not a lizardy-gizzardy i.

When I say Elara, the El separates out from the rest. And perhaps I am thinking of an eel.

But still, I accept you make a good point here.

timoteigirl · 02/01/2026 23:14

Not heard of it before. To me it sounds like a margarine brand or body spray.

But I love the name Lara.

Pettenell · 03/01/2026 09:33

It's a pleasant, evocative - and grown-up sounding - name, and not often used which can be a plus. I think it goes well with your surname.
