My first name is one of the longer versions listed on the thread 👍🏻☺️

I do find it strange that people don’t know the name Leigh 😳🤣

I know 2 - both in their 30s, and both lovely ladies ☺️ I’m west of Scotland and more commonly Leigh here would be female and Lee would be male.

I will say - I have no idea why but my name is one that people always struggle to spell - particularly the “leigh” ending 🙄 I get -liegh a lot!

But Leigh (Greater Manchester), Leigh-on-Sea, Janet Leigh, Vivien Leigh, Leigh Francis, Ashleigh, Kayleigh etc are all 'Lee'

Some supermarket doesn't seem to be able to spell Sleigh.

I would have spelt them Ashley and Kayley tbh because that’s how the ones I know spell them. I don’t know Janet Leigh etc. I just replied to a post asking for opinions about a name and IMO Leigh = (S)Leigh 🤷‍♀️

MrsStickMan · 01/01/2026 20:06

I like it a lot.

I also like Leah and Leonie (pronounced Lay-oh-nee with equal weight to each syllable.

HugoYorway · 01/01/2026 20:08

@BeenChangedForGood , transposed adjacent vowels or consonants is common.

I love the name Leigh for a girl and Lee for a boy

Ikeawea · 01/01/2026 22:05

Leah is far nicer.
Leigh I assume is pronounced like Lee? Most of who are middle aged men

Liftedmeup · 01/01/2026 22:12

Has no one heard of the Victorian poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s master work Aurora Leigh?

Giraffehaver · 01/01/2026 22:15

I much prefer Leigha tbh

It’s the name of a town in the north west so no I wouldn’t.

I grew up in Leigh and its not even a nice town.

Or Leah? (Lia if in Wales).

HugoYorway · 02/01/2026 10:58

Leah is Leh-ah in Welsh, but Lia might get 'Lie-a'.

Mischance · 02/01/2026 11:01

Sorry - but I would not choose this.

Gosh this thread got boring and pedantic ...

I know a Lee in her 70's. Very elegant lady, but I think Leia as in Princess Leia would be prettier (and cooler!)

😂🤣 sorry I have to agree although I live in Bolton so I hsvent got room to talk!

Would that be Lay-a or Lee-a? I'd think it was Lay-a. Leighton is Lay-ton.

AlwaysRightISwear · 03/01/2026 23:38

Quite dated.

peachskies · 07/01/2026 20:45

I don't feel Leigh is very feminine IMHO. Leah is much prettier

Genxhausted · 07/01/2026 20:52

Where are you? Because in the UK Leigh/Lee is a man in his 40s/50s and a somewhat downmarket name for that generation. I would think again!

HugoYorway · 07/01/2026 21:15

Definitely a bloke in his 50s or 40s where I am.

(I've been called daft on another thread for saying that the Jenson trend was connected to Jenson Button, but I'd also link Lee and Lindsay to people famous when the names were popular for babies.)

MummaR94 · 07/01/2026 21:21

I don’t personally know any females called Leigh but know lots of males with that name.
