Very ordinary girls names

Trying to think of girls names that are extremely normal 😅 just good strong classic names.

What I'm thinking is a long the lines of Hannah, Amy, Charlotte etc etc.

I want to avoid anything too unusual, too vintage or too whimsy.

Any suggestions welcome

Normal changes over time. Just look at the recent most popular names, especially for in your area, as they will be the normal ones where you are.

Royal family names (not Sussex or Phillips) or biblical are safe.
Use the ONS site (Baby names since 1904: how has yours performed? - Office for National Statistics) or Baby name explorer to see if the names show any sharp curves.

It’s interesting that you want “normal”. My DD1 has a fairly unusual name and she says it’s been invaluable for her on her working life. People remember her. It’s been great for networking apparently. If she was plain Emma (there were 4 in her class at school) I’m not sure she’d be saying the same. A good name has many facets - blending in or being memorable in a good way.

@FuzzyWolf I agree, in my head I think names popular in the 90s are "normal" whereas someone who grew up in the 70s will have a completely different idea.

Also love Martha but it's already in the family!

Are you wanting avoid popular or common at school? If so then don’t choose Evie, Ava, Ivy, Ada, Mia, Mila, Mya, Olivia, Amelia, Freya, Poppy, Daisy, Maisie, Isla, Orla, Florence, Sienna, Darcey, Isabel, Isabella or Sophie. We’ve had a few Ophelia’s recently too.

Emanwenym · 10/12/2025 13:53

I think it depends on the circumstances (and obviously on individual taste).

We opted for very "normal" names for our kids, because we have a long foreign surname which people find hard to spell and pronounce. Having unusual first names as well might be a bit of a burden for them.

Plus - I may be being a bit arrogant here - but I don't feel like I need to rely on my name to make an impression. I'd like to think that people would remember meeting me, even if my name was "Emma Smith"!

Tattletail · 10/12/2025 15:20

@Pranksters yes trying to avoid those - I think they are all lovely names just a lot around at the moment.
