Sylvie

Kippykangarooo · 24/11/2025 22:49

Poppy, it’s pretty and classic.

NuffSaidSam · 24/11/2025 22:53

Olive.

Too many girl's names end in the 'ee' sound. I think Olive has a bit of gravitas to it. You can always call her Oli or Livi if you need something cutesy when she's little.

Peternell · 24/11/2025 23:12

My favourite is Sylvie, which feels fresh and bright to me. I'm not keen on Olive which sounds harsh for some reason, and I just think of olive oil. Poppy and Kitty are both friendly and sweet names.

Dogmum1983 · 24/11/2025 23:14

I love Poppy it’s one of my fav girls names. It suits most girls . Kitty definitely not .

ToKittyornottoKitty · 24/11/2025 23:16

Kitty is slang for vagina according to urban dictionary, cute.

Id go with Poppy.

DramaAlpaca · 24/11/2025 23:26

Not Poppy. Just so unbearably twee, and classic it's definitely not. OK on a toddler maybe, but as an adult I really wouldn't like to be called Poppy. I just don't like it as a name.

Kitty is adorable as a diminutive for Katherine, but a bit cutesy as a standalone name. I do like it though.

I really like Olive and Sylvie, both have lovely vintage vibes. Of the two, I'd choose Sylvie.

LancashireButterPie · 24/11/2025 23:34

Kitty

smallsilvercloud · 24/11/2025 23:36

I like poppy the best, it sounds friendly and approachable
Kitty doesn’t sound like a real name and the other two seem old fashioned and stern.

SixSeven · 24/11/2025 23:40

Surely Poppy is getting old now, I know loads aged about 8-16.

Kitty is cute but a bit too cute.

Olive is trendy at the moment but reminds me of an old lady or a drab colour.

Sylvie is your winner! Such a pretty name and will gain popularity but you’ll be among the first. Have you thought about a middle name?

RecordBreakers · 24/11/2025 23:43

Kitty is for a cat

Poppy is really cutsie / little girlie.

Which leaves Sylvie from your list. I've seen it mentioned in Baby names threads a lot over the last year. It wouldn't be my choice, but I guess it must be pretty popular from the number of times it gets a mention on here.

MirandaBlu · 24/11/2025 23:44

Love Sylvie! Second choice would be Olive, but I feel like Olivia is so popular it makes Olive feel less distinctive than it should. I wouldn't use Kitty all by itself; it's nice enough as a diminutive of the various Catherine/Katharine names but all by itself it can feel maybe too cutesy? There's nothing objectively wrong with Poppy; it's roughly equivalent to names like Daisy which I WOULD use. I just associate it with affectionate names for a dad (Pop, Papi, etc.) but I am probably strange about that.

Olive.

I agree with this. But Sylvie could grow on me.

Moreteaandchocolate · 25/11/2025 06:25

Poppy gets my vote! I know a few teenage and adult Poppys and the name works beautifully for all ages - definitely not too cutesie / girly.

Sylvie has a pretty sound, but because I’ve only met one middle aged French lady with the name, it has those vibes to me.

Olive is a nice sound and less likely to be shortened as a rule than Olivia, as it’s shorter. I haven’t met any Olives in real life so it has Popeye and On the buses associations to me - but that would change if I met a real Olive!

Kitty - I know an adult Kitty but I’m afraid the cutesie association hasn’t faded much as a result - it wouldn’t be my pick.

Pranksters · 25/11/2025 08:06

Olive is so drab.

Poppy is too twee and so overused. Especially as it always has May or Rose tacked on the end.

Kitty again is too cutesy for an actual name.

Sylvie is ok.

OnToast81 · 25/11/2025 10:15

Sylvie

DuchessOfNarcissex · 25/11/2025 10:31

Poppy - like
Kitty - like if short for Katherine/Katharine.
Olive - dreadful, Olivia is nice.
Sylvie - popular on here, can't imagine why.

@meltingalways , it looks like you are only looking for a baby's name but she'll be an adult most of her life.

Avantiagain · 25/11/2025 10:48

Katherine NN Kitty or Sylvie. Poppy is too cutesy for my taste and Olive to me is on the buses.

Snugglemonkey · 25/11/2025 10:53

Sylvie.

Mumofgirls2017 · 25/11/2025 11:46

Olive, or sylvie

kitty if short for something

i find Poppy a bit overdone these days, think will date badly and can be seen as a bit of a wet name (sorry!)

schoolsoutforever · 25/11/2025 11:51

Sylvie first, Olive second. Poppy and Kitty are nice names but Poppy has just been way too popular (for me) over the last 15 years whereas I think Kitty is more of a diminutive for Katherine isn't it? You could just go for the short version I suppose. I really love Sylvie though.

OopsieeDaisy · 25/11/2025 22:25

Yes, I’ve heard Kitty used in that context so would definitely avoid!

As others have said, names ending ‘ie’/‘ee’ are so over done. I would personally choose Olive from your list but Sylvie is much better than Poppy which just sounds odd on a grown adult to me.

RubyBirdy · 25/11/2025 22:49

Olive or Sylvia, rather than Sylvie. My daughters bestie is called Olive and I adore the name on her, it’s so cute, but not cutesy so it won’t translate to a ‘respectable’ (or cool teen for that matter) woman.

LoudPlumDog · 26/11/2025 04:15

I love Olive.

Simple , classic and just beautiful.

mathanxiety · 26/11/2025 04:18

Kitty is my favourite, followed closely by Sylvie.

Poppy is twee verging on silly, a really insubstantial name, and Olive is self consciously drab.
