I recently moved to a different country in the U.K. to a village and of the new mums I’ve met 4 (!!!) of their little girls are called Olivia nn Liv or Livvy. Where I used to live there were 7 boys called Felix in my daughter’s nursery. What are the names you keep hearing on babies/toddlers recently and think oh my gosh another one?!

Jude is so common around here for boys and Chloe seems even more common. There seems quite a few of each in my son’s school.

Blauehortensie · 22/11/2025 07:12

Arlo seems to be everywhere all of a sudden

BoleynMemories13 · 22/11/2025 07:35

Around me, the most popular boys names (for years) have been Archie, Oscar and Teddy. I also know quite a few boys called Oliver, Noah, Lucas, Leo, Jacob and Thomas, although most of these are 8+ now so not really young children. Arlo, Jude, Reuben, Roman and Hudson seem very up and coming in the under 5s around me. David is super popular at my school, although I feel this is quite an anomaly when you look at national stats (we're in a very multicultural area and most of them are of African or Eastern European heritage).

For girls, Isla, Olivia and Sophia/Sofia have been popular for years. I know lots of girls called Sienna, Evie and Maya, although again these tend to be older girls now so not as many young ones. In the under 5s, it's all about Ivy, Harper, Mila and Aria right now. Poppy, Phoebe and Mabel are cropping up more too.

Anomalies in terms of names which are popular in the national stats, but seemingly not around me at this point in time:-

Theo/Theodore, George, Henry, Ava, Amelia, Lily, Isabella/Isabelle, Florence, Margot and Maeve.

Robin or Robyn seems to be having a mini surge here , along with the usual George, Henry, Oliver etc. Also Rupert.

Girls - Penelope, Rose/Rosa/Rosie and Olivia.

Cupofteaforyou · 22/11/2025 07:42

Girls: Ada, Gracie, Elsie
Boys: Noah, Jude, Eli/Elijah

Our DD is 3 so that's really her age group

Mumofgirls2017 · 22/11/2025 07:50

Oscar, Harry, Alexander, freddie

elodie, Olive, Ruby, Rosie, Esme, harper

RaraRachael · 22/11/2025 07:53

Lots of Noahs, Theos and made up names beginning with K for boys

Girls - Ava, Harper, anything hyphenated ending in -May, -Mai or -Mae

People tend to stick with actual names rather than diminutives. I've known a lot of Olivias but they've never been Liv or Livvy.

ResusciAnnie · 22/11/2025 07:57

Multiple Ottilies and Harrisons at DD’s nursery.

Arthur, Henry, George, Harry, Finley, tons of Freddies. Oh lots of Rowan and Robin too.

Evie, Erin, Eden… all the Es basically. Girls seems to have more variety but always very vowelly.
Florence

All names that when I was naming my dc years ago, just didnt come up as they where 'old fashioned' or 'too out there'

Funny how fashions change-i work with a lady who is calling her baby Hazel-it's a lovely name but I remember saying (when I was pregnant with pfb 29 years ago) that it was 'just not a name you'd call a baby' and I wanted to call her (should she have been a boy) after my grandad (leonard) which everyone turned their noses up at because 'it's an old man's name'

Now every second baby is lennie/len

Fmlgirl · 22/11/2025 12:10

Three Judes in the baby group.
