I recently moved to a different country in the U.K. to a village and of the new mums I’ve met 4 (!!!) of their little girls are called Olivia nn Liv or Livvy. Where I used to live there were 7 boys called Felix in my daughter’s nursery. What are the names you keep hearing on babies/toddlers recently and think oh my gosh another one?!

Felix seems very popular for boys. Theo and Arthur were a couple of years ago. Rudy/Rudi and Otis are names I’ve heard a lot recently.

For girls, Mabel, Beatrice/Bea and Ottilie.

Grovescamp15 · 22/11/2025 19:25

For boys I know SO many called George, Harry or Henry.
For girls Ivy seems to be very popular near me - 4 just in my DD's year group of 45 children.

Isabella, Isla, Thomas, Harrison, Freya

In 2006 I swear a law was passed that every girl child had to be called Eve.

GoldenNuggets08 · 22/11/2025 20:06

Ava (about 5 different spellings but all pronounced Ava), Éala and Aida.

Boys is harder to say, good few Fionn, Theo and Rian.

Floundering66 · 22/11/2025 20:37

The only name at my sons nursery with more that one is “Mia” (north west London)

At local playgroups I’ve come across a few called Finley and Otis.

Names popular amongst girls I went to school with are Olivia, Amelia, Ava, Ivy and Isla - but this is just from Facebook, not sure where they all live now!

Maverick...there are two on my road alone! Not the most common name, but the most unexpectedly common name. Always makes me inwardly giggle, every time I hear of another little boy named Maverick, given the meaning of the word. This is in Canada...might be heading for the UK soon!

TheaBrandt1 · 22/11/2025 21:28

God I hope not. What a cringey name.

Some of these are surprising - I’ve not met any little girls called Beatrice or Mabel so far! I wonder how long it will take for the names which are now popular in London and the cities to spread more rurally. Jude is another boys names I’m hearing a lot more, and Joy seems to be popping up a bit more for girls too.

Jude is everywhere. I really don’t get the love for this name which probably makes it stick in my brain even more! Also Theo and Arlo.

Girls, the E name trend seems to be passing and now we are on to the M trend? Lots of: Mari, Maya, Masha, Margot, Mabel Mabli etc.

Usually twins are born within minutes of each other, not 16 months apart!
