Opinions on Sofia Arabella

I know that Sofia is stupidly popular - but I honestly think it is one of the prettiest girl names I have ever heard.

I have wrestled with choosing something less in the top 10 - like Naya, Cassia, or Adrianna - but something keeps drawing me back to Sofia.

What do we think - too popular and I should stay away under any circumstance? Or lovely name?

I like Sofia. But teemed with Arabella it's a lot of A's I think

BoleynMemories13 · 02/11/2025 19:07

Popularity doesn't bother me, although I much prefer the spelling Sophia. The ph feels a lot less clunky.

Personally I would opt for a middle name which isn't 'a' heavy. You need a non-vowel name to flow best with Sofia/Sophia.

Frostynoman · 02/11/2025 19:07

they are better as sibling names as opposed to first and middle

Emanwenym · 02/11/2025 19:46

It's fine @Thelightblueduck . Sofia and Sophia are both very popular. Is the surname popular?

Moreteaandchocolate · 02/11/2025 19:59

I think Sofia Arabella is a gorgeous name. My son has a top 5 name and he’s the only one in his school year of 240 children! I only know of two Sofias / Sophia’s across 3 schools - popular names aren’t as overused as they used to be. Definitely better to choose the name you love than just going for lower popularity - it would be just typical that she’d end up being one of two Nayas or Cassias in her class!

I think Sophia is a lovely name too, I don’t think it matters if it’s popular, it is quite timeless so won’t age as much as other popular names.
Sophia Arabella is too many As though I think, doesn’t flow very well.

ItsOnlyHobnobs · 02/11/2025 20:04

I like Sophia.

I think both names together is a bit of a mouthful, doesn’t have an easy flow.

Emanwenym · 02/11/2025 20:04

I know loads of Sofias, Sophias and Sophies. They're not all the same age.
Sofia
Sophia

Combined it would have been the most registered name last year.

mathanxiety · 02/11/2025 20:06

Sofia Arabella is a fabulous name!

I think it flows beautifully - similar in feel to Maria Theresa and other historical European names.

I prefer the Sofia spelling too.

greengreyblue · 02/11/2025 20:07

I have worked in primary schools for the last 17 years. Have only had one Sophia who would be about 13 now. Currently no Sophies either. If you like it, choose it.

PinkPonyClubDancer · 02/11/2025 20:07

Sofia is nice. Arabella is not.

Ikeameatballs · 02/11/2025 20:08

I like Sofia but it’s too much with Arabella.

ResusciAnnie · 02/11/2025 20:10

Utterly forgettable, utterly inoffensive, totally versatile, pretty unimaginative, very girly. All those things have positives and negatives. If you like use it. It’s overall very neutral (except not gender neutral!)

I like Sofia but it’s too much with Arabella.

Oh I thought Arabella was a middle name so not too much as they won’t be said together apart from at a wedding or naming ceremony.

AutumnClouds · 02/11/2025 20:11

Cassia is a laxative!

I think Sofia is lovely, although the nicknames seem really different to the full version, do you like those? If there are others around might be more likely to go by a nickname version so she might end up Sofe or Fia.

I also find the combo with Arabella a bit too flowery but of course it’s just a matter of taste.

Zov · 02/11/2025 20:12

It's quite nice. Smile

Kellogs4 · 02/11/2025 20:12

If Arabella is the middle name I like it. Not as a double barrell name.

Whereismyfleeceblanket · 02/11/2025 20:13

Way too ott...

AutumnClouds · 02/11/2025 20:13

Just wanted to add that Naya is such a strong but feminine name, I haven’t heard it before but love it!

Newmama4321 · 02/11/2025 20:14

I’ve never liked Arabella personally, I find it a bit precious, but Sophia is lovely

Thelightblueduck · 02/11/2025 20:19

Yes - Sofia would be the first name and Arabella the middle name. Not a double barrelled first name.

Just for clarification!

I think it's too many A's. Arabella reminds me of Arabella's raven read by Bernard Cribbens....very funny and showing my age!

LivingTheDreamish · 02/11/2025 20:50

Sofia Arabella is very pretty OP. I must say I love Cassia personally, so if you wanted to swerve a popular name then that would be a nice option. But if Sofia is "the one" then stick with it. Nothing wrong with choosing a popular name that you love. And sod's law if you switched to Cassia there would be an influx of them!

tartyflette · 02/11/2025 20:55

I tend to prefer Sophy Arabella - it's one syllable fewer, the two names flow a bit better and it's slightly easier to say.
Up to you!

fairycupcakes · 02/11/2025 21:56

Sophie/Sofie Arabella flows better than Sofia Arabella - too many A’s imo.

Trying to think of similar vibes for Arabella (but starting with a consonant) so how about:

Sofia Gabriella
Sofia Clarissa
Sofia Mariella
Sofia Evangeline
Sofia Josephine
