Kitrick...?

So our son is names Kit. My husband and I put down Kristian on the BC as my husband wanted a 'full name'. I have never gelled with Kristian despite us only calling him Kit. If I were to change it I really like Kitrick! (I actually find myself calling him that when I want to full name bim). I just wanted to know people's thoughts on the name! I think it's Scottish and means 'true victory'!

It's definitely not better than Kristian. Just call him Kit and ignore what's on the birth certificate. He can change it when he's older if he's bothered.

roshi42 · 28/10/2025 20:40

I’d never heard of it but I quite love it! Cute!

Calliopespa · 28/10/2025 20:43

It's a bit like Patrick I guess.

magicscares · 28/10/2025 20:48

I thought kit was used as a diminutive of Christopher.

BellissimoGecko · 28/10/2025 20:51

Never heard of it, and I’m Scottish.

TheBlueHotel · 28/10/2025 20:53

It's not a Scottish name 😆 don't do it, it's awful

MyAcornWood · 28/10/2025 20:55

I couldn’t say anything nice about it if I tried, sorry. Kit is a diminutive for Christopher anyway isn’t it?

BerkleyChoo · 28/10/2025 20:55

Sounds like an Australian pronouncing Catterick.

RaininSummer · 28/10/2025 20:56

Not sure as it seems a bit too unusual. I love Kit however and Kristian is s a nice name.

Gcsunnyside23 · 28/10/2025 20:59

I know it as an Irish surname. I don't mind it for a first name but why if you aren't going to use it would you bother, just name him kit

PurpleFlower1983 · 28/10/2025 20:59

Christopher surely for Kit? Kit’s not a shortened version of Kristian.

JudgeBread · 28/10/2025 20:59

It's not Scottish, it's one of those American "my great great great grandfather was Scottish so I'm also Scottish and here are my children Kitrick, Ochaye and Haggis." names.

What on earth is wrong with Christopher if you're never going to use it anyway? That's what Kit is a diminutive of.

GoldenNuggets08 · 28/10/2025 21:09

I generally think you should call children what you want but honestly if I heard the name Kitrick I would think you made it up. Sorry.

schoolsoutforever · 28/10/2025 21:11

Kit is usually short for Christopher - is this an option? I'm Scottish and have never heard of Kitrick but if you like it (for what it's worth, I think its quite a nice sound) go for it!

Moreteaandchocolate · 28/10/2025 21:15

Kitrick is really bad, sorry! Kristian nn Kit works well, and he’s got the option of Chris if he likes when older too.

ParkAndThenRide · 28/10/2025 21:35

I think people will be agog if you change your child’s name from an ordinary name to Kitrick. Or Balonz. I agree with a pp that it sounds like Catterick with an accent.

BoleynMemories13 · 28/10/2025 21:47

Kitrick is ridiculous.

Christopher is the only name I know Kit to be short for. Anything else seems contrived.

If you don't like Christopher, Kit as a stand alone name is preferable. Definitely not Kitrick!

Loub1987 · 28/10/2025 21:53

if you call him Kit and that’s what he goes by, why do you care? Unless it has a reason, I think you are creating a future minor admin issue for your son that has no purpose. He will be asked to provide birth certificate at certain points and need to also find this change of name proof.

This might be my terrible organisation and hatred of admin speaking though.

Clementine12 · 28/10/2025 21:55

It sounds like something from lord of the rings or game of thrones!

Kit is usually short for Christopher

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 28/10/2025 21:57

Kit kat
Sorry
Thats all it reminds me off.
Kit on its own is lovely.

Elephantangel1991 · 28/10/2025 21:58

In your position i think I'd change it to just Kit.

Eenameenadeeka · 28/10/2025 22:01

It sounds made up. I also thought Kit was short for Christopher.

Notagain75 · 28/10/2025 22:03

I don't think Kitrick is a name is it? Just leave him as Kristian which is a name and carry on calling him Kit.
Both Kristan and Kit are much nicer than Kitrick

Moveoverdarlin · 28/10/2025 22:04

Kitrick?? You can’t be serious? I can’t decide if it reminds me of Patrick or Kit-Kat. Either way stick to Kristian. Although as others have said, Kit is short for Christopher.

Firebird83 · 28/10/2025 22:23

Just stick with Kristian or change it to Christopher
