Brother for Matilda

We’re really really struggling with a boys name! We loved Matilda from the start and we don’t have a boys name we’ve had the same connection to.

Middle name will be Peter for family reasons.

so far we have:
Frederick
Oscar
Douglas (Dougie / Doug)
George
Alexander
Edward (Ted / Teddy - I do not like Ed so that puts me off a bit).
Louis

Which do you prefer? (Other suggestions welcome!)

I don’t like George or Oscar because there are about six in both my DC’s year, it’s crazy. They’re everywhere where we live.

I love Alexander. Dislike Louis, it’s just a bit wet.

Forgottenmyphone · 01/10/2025 11:35

I like Oscar and George best, but they are extremely popular at the moment.
does Matilda get called Tilly? If so, Tilly and Teddy is a bit twee.
How about:
Dominic
Alistair
Christopher (Kit has similar vibes to Ted/Teddy)

Mumofgirls2017 · 01/10/2025 12:06

I like Edward, Alexander, George and Frederick. Also love with Matilda….

Henry
Theodore
Vincent
William
Sebastian
Felix
Christopher (kit?)
Leonard
Wilfred
Arthur
Jasper

I like Edward and Douglas. How about
Caspar
Quentin
Magnus

DorisTheFinkasaurus · 01/10/2025 12:42

Edward (Ted) and Frederick (Freddie, if you wish) are my favourites and work really nicely with Matilda.

I like Frederick the best!
Also love Oscar and Douglas

ImFineItsAllFine · 01/10/2025 12:52

From your list - Douglas

Oscar/Freddie/George/Louis are everywhere at the moment, if that would bother you.

Another suggestion:

Benedict (Ben for short)

DuchessOfNarcissex · 01/10/2025 13:29

Sebastian goes with Matilda

SkaneTos · 01/10/2025 20:05

Frederick and Oscar are my favourites from your list.

Other ideas
Matilda and Mathias
Matilda and Jonathan
Matilda and August/Augustus

I like George from your list, how about Chester? Same feel but less common. I know a gorgeous Chester!

Deinonychus · 01/10/2025 20:12

Christian

(I never comment on these threads usually! I think Matilda’s brother deserves 3 syllables, good luck finding a name you love)

Honish · 01/10/2025 20:13

I like Douglas the best. They are all nice names. I like Oscar the least, it's still nice but not in the same league as the others. Philip and Hector are two names I think go well with Matilda.

Love the name Christian!

Mandarinaduck · 01/10/2025 20:22

I like Frederick the best but those are very nice names.

What about
Marcus
Guy
Maxim

JillyGiraffe · 01/10/2025 20:32

From your list, I think George and Edward go best with Matilda. I’ve only met one young George and one Teddy. I actually really like Tilly and Ted (or Teddy).
Other suggestions:
Matilda and William
Matilda and Thomas
Matilda and Theodore

17caterpillars1mouse · 01/10/2025 20:48

I like Alexander best, lots of nn options, but also sounds lovely in full, similar vibe to Matilda and a classic that never dates

blankcanvas3 · 01/10/2025 20:59

I have a Matilda and her brother is called Gabriel (Gabe for short)

Stephen? You don’t hear it often, and it historically goes with Matilda.

Might not be portentous for family harmony!

dontcomeatme · 01/10/2025 21:10

Matilta is on our list of names for girls and we have an Edward (Ted) and a Henry.

True! But Stephen’s wife was also a Matilda. Apparently a very popular medieval name.

Allswellthatendswelll · 01/10/2025 21:13

I like Edward as both Anglo Saxon/ Medieval names. Or maybe William or Alfred?

tinytemper66 · 01/10/2025 21:15

Sebastian

Came to say the same. Edward (Ted) and Frederick (Freddie). Both lovely classic names, not too wet or drippy, (Louis perhaps?) but not too gruff and manly (Douglas?)

George and Oscar are just too overdone and to be honest George isn't a particulary nice sound.

I also really like Alexander but am not sure sure of the pairing with Matilda?
