Struggling to name our baby girl

Nameforbaby2025 · 17/09/2025 10:23

I’ve name changed because the details are outing.

The two names I love are Maeve and Daisy. However, DH is called Dave and I have a baby niece named Darcy.

I can’t find any other names that I really gel with, grateful for any ideas.

Don't see any problem with a Daisy and a Darcy in the family.
Maeve and Dave I agree is a bit too much, what about Maeva?

Loubylie · 17/09/2025 10:31

I think Dave and Maeve is adorable. Go for it.

courageiscontagious · 17/09/2025 10:36

I love Maeve

Instead of Daisy, what about..

Agree, Daisy and Darcy is fine.

And I prefer Daisy.

PanderBare · 17/09/2025 10:52

I dislike Maeve (and Maeva) but Daisy is nice.

I also dislike Darcy, but that's not the point.

Moreteaandchocolate · 17/09/2025 11:32

Maeve and Daisy are both lovely names and I would use them despite the similar family names - it’s more important to choose a name you love than overthink these things. Dave will be daddy to her anyway, so it won’t be an issue a lot of the time.

Or how about Maisie or Niamh?

Bitzee · 17/09/2025 11:47

Both lovely names but I’d personally avoid Maeve with Dave because it does sound a bit silly and I imagine it’ll raise eyebrows when you start to do things like nursery birthday parties and school events- ‘Hi I’m Dave and this is my daughter Maeve’. However, there’s no issue with Daisy and Darcy for cousins.

Mumofgirls2017 · 17/09/2025 16:53

Go for Daisy, I think it’s fine with Dave and Darcy

Alltheusefulitems · 17/09/2025 16:55

Maisie combines both the names you love

Needmorelego · 17/09/2025 16:57

Darcy and Daisy aren't similar at all apart from both starting with D.
Daisy is lovely.
(Or Maisy if it's the sound of the name you like).

SueDunome · 17/09/2025 16:58

How about Niamh?

clarrylove · 17/09/2025 17:06

Stick with Maeve. Rename your husband David. Lol

KayEmAy · 17/09/2025 19:51

Love Daisy! And Daisy and Darcy are totally fine for cousins, siblings would be too close but cousins are fine!

LivingTheDreamish · 17/09/2025 20:36

I know what you mean about the rhyming Dave and Maeve being best avoided, but I see no issues with a Darcy, Dave and Daisy combo. I love the name Daisy.

You could use Maeve or Maeva as a middle name with Daisy.

mum1345 · 17/09/2025 22:07

My husband is Joe and we have a Beau who is 12..
it really hasn’t caused us any problems!!
if you love it go for it xx

CraftyNavySeal · 17/09/2025 22:12

I like Maeve and I don’t think it’s a big issue.

I have a similar sounding name to my mum and aunt and it was fine unless grandma was trying to remember my name, more of a running joke than a hindrance!

Love this suggestion!

Firsttimebabymummy · 22/09/2025 21:04

Love this suggestion!

So do I! Best of both worlds.

It's a little softer than Maeve and more unusual than Daisy.

Best of all, it sounds nothing like Dave or Darcy!

Plastictreees · 23/09/2025 09:24

Maeva and Daisy are lovely.

miniaturepixieonacid · 23/09/2025 23:27

I don't see a problem with Darcey and Daisy either.

I would avoid Dave and Maeve.

But agree that Maisie is the perfect combo name between the two and I like it better than either Maeve or Daisy, personally.

MiddleAgedDread · 24/09/2025 14:32

I know a Dave with a Maeve and tbh it's never really occurred to me that they rhyme!

I've always thought Maeve was pronounced "Meeve".
Is it not?
I don't think I have actually known someone with the name so only ever seen it written.
Apologies to any Maeve's out there if I have always got it wrong.

MiddleAgedDread · 24/09/2025 14:37

@Needmorelego it's May-ve not Mee-ve
