I think it’s a girls name. A delicate girls name. It’s not sturdy.

HotBathwater · 06/09/2025 09:08

Sex. You mean sex. And it’s overwhelmingly used for girls.

TheNightingalesStarling · 06/09/2025 09:08

I would think girl.
But not be overly surprised by a boy.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 06/09/2025 09:08

Girls name x

Slowgrowingelm · 06/09/2025 09:09

It’s a girls name.

ShowOfHands · 06/09/2025 09:10

The only Wren I know is a boy but I think it's more commonly associated with girls.

JDM625 · 06/09/2025 09:11

Girl

I like the name, but the actual bird is tiny, bland, brown bird. Just something to keep in mind.

myrtleWilson · 06/09/2025 09:11

I'd say Wren is female, Ren could be either.

Wren is a surname and commonly used as a girls name now.
It would be fine as a second name for a boy, I think, used like many surnames are used as second names.

Bumbers · 06/09/2025 09:39

Girls name

intrepidpanda · 06/09/2025 09:45

No. Its a girls name

GeniuneWorkOfFart · 06/09/2025 09:46

Dirty little Wren.

(country saying)

PrivateMusic · 06/09/2025 09:48

When I hear ‘Wren’ I instantly think ‘Jenny Wren’, so it seems feminine to me.

Strong disagree! I think they're gorgeous, understated with lovely tail stripes and they're so loud and proud too. I'd associate them with being bold despite their size... 😆 it's funny how differently we see the world!

MadKittenWoman · 06/09/2025 09:51

Only one I know of is a girl.

MadKittenWoman · 06/09/2025 09:52

And wrens are lovely!

Sellenis · 06/09/2025 09:53

In this case I think it is gender, @HotBathwater . There's nothing inherently sexed about names. It's gendered, as in somewhat arbitrary social rules we place on people based on their sex. If it's genuinely to do with the body (eg sport, medicine etc) then it's sex. If it's stuff like hairdos and toys, then it's gender.

Sex means bodies, gender means ideas/words/fashions/culture.

NewLifter · 06/09/2025 09:53

I would say girl

DustlandFairytaleBeginning · 06/09/2025 09:54

No, its a girls name.

Lifeinthepit · 06/09/2025 09:55

MadKittenWoman · 06/09/2025 09:52

Wrens are vicious home wreckers. They puncture the eggs of other birds to boot them out of their manor.

potato08 · 06/09/2025 09:57

I'd assume a boy called "Wren: would be spelt "Ren" (footloose?)

I’m well aware of what gender means. The OP is asking if it’s a boy or girl’s name. And yes, there’s nothing inherently sexed about a name.

Wow I didn’t know that. What little bastards!

Kingsleadhat · 06/09/2025 10:00

On The Archers it was a boy's name
