Two names starting with Z for a boy and a girl?

We have a boy called Zach, we are expecting a girl soon. My partner and I are having trouble picking names for a girl we’re both very fussy.
he really likes very few, one of the names he prefers the most is Zara. I said it might be cringe with the two z’s he said that it wasn’t even planned about the z’s he just seen the name and actually really liked it.
so it would be Zach and Zara. I do love the name too. Just worried it’s to similar to Zach? If we go on to have a third, that baby definitely won’t have a name with Z. It’s not meant to be a family theme at all. We just like the name and it looks planned but it isn’t. Would it be strange down the line having Zach, Zara and a child with a completely different name and letter then?
whar do you think? I’m torn because I really like it too. I worry it will be judged and seen as intentional or cringe to others.

I think it's fine. Our family have names all starting with the same letter.

sueelleker · 20/07/2025 10:09

Zenna, Zinnia, Zelda.

TeenToTwenties · 20/07/2025 10:09

I think it sets up for unnecessary confusion in schools or letters addressed to Z.Smith.

I have a Zahra, and liked Zachary, but DS was born before I liked Zachary. I wouldn’t have had 2 Z names

GreenSedan · 20/07/2025 10:10

Zoe and Zane are the only two I can think of.

ooooohlala · 20/07/2025 10:14

I considered exactly this combo and decided it was a bit too Kardashian, sorry.

My mum and dad called me and my sister names with the same initial. It was very confusing growing up. We used to open each other's post and teachers used to get us mixed up.... even with 4 years between us.

PrincessofHyrule · 20/07/2025 10:16

I have boy and girl with A names. On purpose.

This.

My mum, dad and 2 brothers had the same initial. Same bank, same this, same that... so mail was always being opened by someone else, school letters were always getting mixed up too.Complete lack of privacy. So no I wouldn't go with the same initial. But snailmail is less prevalent now I guess.

Personally I think it would be really naff. It would look like you didn't see the kids, or their names, as individuals but part of a matching set.

diterictur · 20/07/2025 10:22

A family member - she and her DH's names both start with A, their first child's name begins with Z, their second child they went for K as middle of the alphabet

So if you go onto have more children, you could consider A names or K

GoodVibesHere · 20/07/2025 10:23

Oh people always mention the problem of receiving letters/post with the same initial, but seriously who receives regular mail these days? Most stuff is done electronically via email and text, it's rare to receive an actual letter, so it's really a non-issue.

PeachPumpkin · 20/07/2025 10:29

I live with someone with the same first initial and surname and it has caused problems. I avoided giving my children names with the same first initial.

CrispieCake · 20/07/2025 10:30

I wouldn't have all Zs but there are some names to choose:

Zabrina
Zelda
Zion
Zander
Zane
Zayden

LucasBuck · 20/07/2025 10:37

My brother’s name starts with the same initial as mine- it’s not cringy (both are classic commonplace names, the same initial is a coincidence as my parents just liked the names) and post was no issue as it was Mr/Miss on letters.

Zach and Zara sound nice together imo. But I would use a different initial if you have a 3rd child (I have known a couple of families who have done this - 2 siblings who coincidentally share an initial, one who doesn’t) as same initials for same sex kids can cause more of a post problem. For the 3rd child you could always keep the short 1/2 syllable theme instead so they still fit nicely as a sibset.

romdowa · 20/07/2025 10:38

My sons names both start with the same letter, as do mine and my brothers. It's never been a huge issue

AMillionTomorrows · 20/07/2025 10:39

It’s fine. If you call the third one Zabrina it might start being weird. Two is fine though.

overweightteacher · 20/07/2025 10:40

I think they sound good together. If you're worried about 2 z names you could change the spelling - Sara or xara?

Titasaducksarse · 20/07/2025 10:44

I once worked professionally with a family who had 7 children. All the boys were say B names and all girls C names. Gosh that was a challenge remembering them and in age order!

bozzabollix · 20/07/2025 10:46

We have a Zinnia.

Worriedmum67 · 20/07/2025 10:47

Zennor and Zita
Zoe
Zania

Be4thedawn · 20/07/2025 10:49

I have the same initial as my brother and Dad, it never caused any issues

okydokethen · 20/07/2025 10:49

I like alliteration like that!

Moreteaandchocolate · 20/07/2025 11:59

I usually think siblings with the same initial is fine, but “z” is an unusual initial so it stands out more and seems more intentional. I wouldn’t do it for that reason myself, but I wouldn’t think negatively if I met siblings Zara and Zach.

(I don’t think the post thing is a major issue these days, everything is going electronic)

Ellmau · 20/07/2025 13:41

It's too matchy.

What about Sara? Just different enough.

Or even Lara/Mara/Kara/Cara/Tara?
