Anyone have an Austin?

Hi!
Baby boy is 5 days old and we are circling around deciding on the name Austin, nn Ozzie. My slight concern is that, even though it is actually an old English name, it might be seen as a bit American in feel which is a bit different to our other two children’s very classic names. But not sure that really matters.
Does anyone have an Austin and if so what
kind of comments do you get if any? Do you use any particular nicknames?
Any other feedback?
thanks everyone

I don’t have the be but agree it sounds American, maybe because of Austin, Texas?

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 18/06/2025 13:58

I have a special friend who has an Austin really suits him he's a rock star kid.

mathanxiety · 18/06/2025 20:45

Austin doesn't say Texas to me at all.

I know several Irish Austins.

Dragonfly909 · 18/06/2025 20:45

I have a toddler Austin and also there is one at older DC's school so there are a few around. Don't recall getting any comments so far, positive or negative. We like it and it suits him. We do call him Ozzie now and then!

Is your surname Morris or Healy?

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 18/06/2025 22:43

I absolutely adore the name Austin!
I don’t have one but I know one. He is a toddler so doesn’t really seem to have a opinion on his name yet, but his mum is always getting compliments on his name.

finespineline · 18/06/2025 23:01

Austin is the absolute best name ever. Plus I know 3 Austin's who are adults and each one is lovely

finespineline · 18/06/2025 23:03

All Irish!! So also come with the lovely accent

rockstuckhardplace · 18/06/2025 23:06

I have a friend with an Austin. It's a great name. He just gets called Austin. We're English. He's 11. He has two brothers and I have always thought the three of them have very cool names.

hyggetyggedotorg · 18/06/2025 23:07

All it says to me is Allegro. There are so many better names. Would you tell us your older DCs names so we can think of something in the same style?

Hattie1106 · 19/06/2025 12:05

Thanks all for the feedback. No issues with our surname, not too worried about the car/ Austin powers references as don’t think will be an issue for children born now :)

You could spell it Austen. The name was originally Augustine so you could opt for August.
However Austin doesn’t make me think automatically of the US.
Best wishes to your family

DuchessOfNarcissex · 19/06/2025 14:32

You could spell it Austen. Please don't. It looks like the sort of names American fans of Jane Austen would give their baby daughter.

LittleGreenDuck · 19/06/2025 14:49

I have a teenage Austin in the wider family, we're English. Don't get the American vibe at all. I didn't think his generation would know of Austin Powers, but apparently it's been mentioned a couple of times, though never been a problem.

The one in my family is just known as Austin, but I do know a slightly younger one who goes by Ozzie.

Zebralie · 19/06/2025 16:24

I would wonder whether he was conceived in Austin, Texas?

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 19/06/2025 16:41

DH middle name is Austin…. he hates it but I think it’s ok. Makes him think of the cars, but then he was born in the 70s so that makes sense.

Azulejo9 · 19/06/2025 17:27

I love it, I have an Austin he’s 15 twin sister Amber.. He’s Ozzie & loves his name

JohnofWessex · 19/06/2025 17:29

hattie43 · 19/06/2025 17:30
