It means yellow in Greek, and is pronounced Zan-thee.

PrincessPeaHead · 22/05/2008 13:58

fabulous
it really means more golden, not yellow... lovely name.

Divejaney · 22/05/2008 13:58

I really like it. Can you spell it with Z and well as X?

Botbot · 22/05/2008 13:58

I know an Ianthe.

modernart · 22/05/2008 13:59

No not Greek, just like it.

Lovely

SNoraWotzThat · 22/05/2008 14:00

don't like it

scattercushion · 22/05/2008 14:00

Love it - and considered it. Only hesitation was idiot inlaws not knowing how to say/spell it.

modernart · 22/05/2008 14:01

2.4kids - lol. I've never seen it with a Z. Princess, that's even nicer then if it's golden. Thanks.

It was on my list when I was a little girl (along with Agatha, Venetia and Miranda). Nice name but would it be a pain having to spell it out for people? Is it a tad pretentious?

DforDiva · 22/05/2008 14:02

i like it, different

southeastastra · 22/05/2008 14:03

sounds like an holiday destination for brits abroad

tortoise · 22/05/2008 14:04

I love it. My DD1's name is close to that. She is called Xantia.

tortoise · 22/05/2008 14:05

Meant to add it gets shortened to Tia.

SNoraWotzThat · 22/05/2008 14:05

i like Tia much better

modernart · 22/05/2008 14:06

edam, yes I'm afraid I may be a tad pretentious! As for spelling it, some of the others here, including me, have fairly straightforward names that I'm still asked to spell out, so that wouldn't be a major problem.

I have a Xanthe. She is suitably golden-haired. People sometimes call her Zante (like the Greek island).

We also have an Ianthe at school.

Cicatrice · 22/05/2008 14:13

It is a lovely name. Have to be careful of the surname though.

Tommy · 22/05/2008 14:13

I have a friend called Xanthe. She has a sister called Athene - I think her parents had a bit of a Greek myth thing going on
She's nice - I like the name

edam · 22/05/2008 14:14

A minor thought - would she have trouble with banks and officialdom if her initial is X?

Squack · 22/05/2008 14:16

I love it!

It's our first choice name for the next if it's a girl.

Hmm, hope it doesn't become too popular.

hannahsaunt · 22/05/2008 14:16

I love it. It's my top girl's name though unlikely to ever be able/allowed to use it. Go for it.
