What do you think of the name Xanthe for a girl?

It was on my list when I was a little girl (along with Agatha, Venetia and Miranda). Nice name but would it be a pain having to spell it out for people? Is it a tad pretentious?

edam, yes I'm afraid I may be a tad pretentious! As for spelling it, some of the others here, including me, have fairly straightforward names that I'm still asked to spell out, so that wouldn't be a major problem.

I have a Xanthe. She is suitably golden-haired. People sometimes call her Zante (like the Greek island).

We also have an Ianthe at school.

It is a lovely name. Have to be careful of the surname though.
