Is Fiona classic or outdated?

Hi everyone!
I’m expecting my first daughter next month, and my husband and I have decided to name her Fiona.
I know it’s not a super trendy or common name these days, so I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Does Fiona come across to you as a classic and elegant name, or does it feel more outdated or “granny-ish”?

I think it's classic rather than dated. Go with what you love

bizzey · 24/05/2025 22:44

Classic 🥰

CanelliniBeans · 24/05/2025 22:44

I’m not a fan and think it’s out dated but really it’s if you like it or not that counts!

Chrissmasjammies · 24/05/2025 22:44

I have a Fiona, she’s 12. It’s a great name and no hassle pronouncing or spelling it. I think classic not dated.

sheknowsitstoolate · 24/05/2025 22:45

I like it

ToKittyornottoKitty · 24/05/2025 22:45

Outdated. And shrekish

Beautifulweeds · 24/05/2025 22:47

Classic, also quite posh when you call Fi for short lol 😆

Zoflorabore · 24/05/2025 22:49

I think it’s awful sorry op.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 24/05/2025 22:51

Outdated

BeetyAxe · 24/05/2025 22:51

Classic and elegant IMO.

waltzingparrot · 24/05/2025 22:51

Classic, definitely

MatildaMovesMountains · 24/05/2025 22:51

It's middle-aged rather than grannyish - Fionas seem to be in their 50s! But if you love it that's the main thing.

Damsonjam1 · 24/05/2025 22:52

Fiona is a classic name. It's never been over popular so isn't dated. I like it.

SpunkySquid · 24/05/2025 22:52

I instantly think of Shrek. Sorry

EmmaRose89 · 24/05/2025 22:53

To me it's a similar type to Sinead, Elaine, Claire, Ruth, Judith, Yvonne, Simone, Lorraine, Edel, Angela, Heather, Sandra

Whiteflowerscreed · 24/05/2025 22:53

Clsssic! I like!!

Supersimkin7 · 24/05/2025 22:54

Classic.

loubielou31 · 24/05/2025 22:54

As long as you are happy with the Princess Fiona from Shrek connection it's a very pretty name. Ffion which is Welsh and similar is quite popular, as is Finn/ Ffinn for a boy so why not.

elozabet · 24/05/2025 22:56

Classic

Bowling4soup · 24/05/2025 22:57

Shrekish

OudAndRose · 24/05/2025 22:57

Classic Celtic name. You will get Princess Fiona but tbf she is an icon.

curiousaccident · 24/05/2025 22:58

Dc is obsessed with shrek so that’s all I think of and Id worry she might get picked on because of it at school.
shame because it is over wise a lovely name.

what about Ophelia, Pheobe or Sophia?

MoominMai · 24/05/2025 23:05

Outdated. But then I had a 60 year old bullying manager recently so probably prejudiced by that. I would though worry about bullying also as Shrek is likely to remain a kids favourite and because Fiona is a relatively unusual name amongst young kids it may stand out and not have the greatest result. Just my opinion.

Lucyyyy133 · 24/05/2025 23:09

As expected, some of you brought up Shrek 😂
I don’t really mind the association but I’ve actually never really watched the movie…
Fiona’s supposed to be a good character though, right?
