Opinions from non Muslims please

As a muslim with keeping names these days I always try to get the opinions of others and how theyd pronounce especially non muslims so i get an idea for school etc. I had a beautiful baby boy snd the name we like is "Huraith" pronounced hu-ray-th, has a lovely meaning too. I've never heard of it and main thing is me and my husband love it and it suits baby. Full name would be Huraith Hasham. Ofcourse there's always a few people who have said its weird and two have said it sounds like hurray which makes you doubt yourself!! Anyones name can be butchered these days but for me as long as it isn't overly butchered or turned into something awful im not bothered . What do you think please 🥰 thankyou

I'd have pronounced it exactly like you said so no issues from that perspective!

Congrats on your baby.

EveryKneeShallBow · 22/05/2025 10:26

As an atheist it sounds like a perfectly lovely name to me.

dontcomeatme · 22/05/2025 10:28

Lovely name, and I pronounced it right automatically. Congrats 🥰

caramac04 · 22/05/2025 10:29

I would pronounce it as you would. I like the name. Even if people say it sounds a bit like hurray at least that is a positive word iyswim
Enjoy your baby with his lovely name.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/05/2025 10:29

I also pronounced it the way you did op. I think it’s pretty obvious. (Hopefully!)

Artart · 22/05/2025 10:31

It’s a beautiful name, and sits really nicely with your surname. I automatically pronounced it correctly, and I’m also dyslexic, so that doesn’t always happen!
I think you should go for it!

DongDingBell · 22/05/2025 10:34

I'd have made it 2 syllables, but with the sounds youve identified.

I don't adore it, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. If you love it, use it.

Goandygo · 22/05/2025 10:36

I'd have pronounced it exactly as you stated.
It's a lovely name, and congratulations ❤️

Hoppinggreen · 22/05/2025 10:38

I like it and its both spellable and pronounceable

tinaabbot · 22/05/2025 10:38

I like it, unusual but reasonable to pronounce, sounds good with your surname and sort of gives me the vibe of a successful person (silly I know).
Congrats!

RaininSummer · 22/05/2025 10:40

The pronunciation seems clear phonetically and it's a lovely name. Congratulations on your baby boy.

lljkk · 22/05/2025 11:04

I would have guessed it was said "Who Rye th"

Would you be happy with nicknmames, I see that one becoming Raith (Ray th).

Google AI says that Huraith is an Arabic girl name & Hurath is the Arabic boy name, which means 'provider' ?

Shetlands · 22/05/2025 11:07

Lovely name and easy to pronounce.

Jasmin71 · 22/05/2025 11:31

I pronounced it as you did straight away. It's perfect with your surname. Congratulations.

EuclidianGeometryFan · 22/05/2025 11:51

The first syllable could be Hoo with a long oo sound, or Hu with a short sound as in 'up', or a non-emphasised schwa 'e' sound if the stress is on the second syllable.

The long vowel would make it 'hoo-ray' as in the cheer, with a 'th' on the end - not a name I would choose. It reminds me of the old caricature 'Hooray Henry'.

User37482 · 22/05/2025 11:56

Yup I pronounce it as you spelled it, I’m south asian but I’ve never come across this before, it’s a lovely name, congratulations OP.

CurlewKate · 22/05/2025 12:31

I like it. But as the parent of 2 children who lisped til they were almost at secondary age, I would always be wary of “th” names….

Ddakji · 22/05/2025 12:33

I don’t really like the name myself but it’s perfectly easy to pronounce.

goforsleep · 22/05/2025 12:34

Congratulations; I really like the name.

evelynevelyn · 22/05/2025 12:39

I’d pronounce it as you wrote.

Hearing the whole name together for the first time, I’d have difficulty parsing it out into first and surname. Up to you if you think that’s a big enough problem to worry you.

AnneMarieW · 22/05/2025 13:05

I would pronounce it as you said OP, as that seems the most obvious phonetically. Lovely name and I love the alliteration with your surname - really memorable. I don’t think it sounding a bit like “Hurray” is at all a big deal - it’s a positive word after all.

SquigglePigs · 22/05/2025 13:08

I think it’s lovely and read it to myself with the same pronunciation as you said.

Mauvehoodie · 22/05/2025 13:43

That's a really lovely name. It's written how it's pronounced so I'd have said it how you say it. Nothing wrong with it sounding very slightly like hurray but it wouldn't pop into my head.

thepurgebegins · 22/05/2025 13:59

@tinaabbot I said the same thing about the successful part haha 🥰 thankyou xx
