You would need to have a twin called either Hobbs, or Klein ..

JaninaDuszejko · 19/05/2025 14:28

References are likely to be Calvin Harris, Calvin Klein or Calvin and Hobbs rather than the protestant reformer. I quite like it.

@JaninaDuszejkothank you! Yes concern was links to Protestant reformer when I googled it

I do feel it's either very American sounding or chavvy.

Tinytotdriver · 19/05/2025 14:30

I like that it’s different but not odd. Like you wouldn’t find lots of Calvins but it also wouldn’t be considered a weird/made-up name. They’re the kind of names I like 😊

ginasevern · 19/05/2025 14:32

I don't think I've heard if echoing around my council estate so I assume it's (as yet) quite unusual? It would make me think of the protestant reformer but then I'm a bit of a history hound. Cal for short is nice.

Viviennemary · 19/05/2025 14:33

It's horrible and harsh sounding. But I've heard worse on here.

I rather like it. It does remind me a little in passing of the reformer but don’t think that would be the general take, I think it’s because I’m Scottish.

BoudiccaRuled · 19/05/2025 14:47

Either starkly protestant Christians (not much fun) or that alien thing that ate Ryan Reynolds etc then landed in the sea in a pod with Jake Gyllenhal and presumably went on to consume all mankind. Also not much fun.
The name has negative connotations for me.

Enko · 19/05/2025 14:54

I like it. Also love Calvin & Hobbes

Beat me to it! Or there’s that peculiar man on GB news. Sorry it’s not a positive response from me.

rosanna19 · 19/05/2025 15:02

I love it, I think of the little boy from Calvin and Hobbes. My partner wouldn’t agree or I would have used it!

Tinseltotties · 19/05/2025 15:04

I like it

Moreteaandchocolate · 19/05/2025 15:20

It’s quite popular in the US I think, but the only Calvin I know in the UK is in his 70’s, so it feels either American or dated to me. However, objectively it’s a good name and has the great nn Cal.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 19/05/2025 15:29

Calvins - slang for boxer shorts

Whiteflowerscreed · 19/05/2025 15:30

It’s fine, a bit American

Pollyanna87 · 19/05/2025 15:37

Sorry, but it’s chavvy.

DramaAlpaca · 19/05/2025 15:44

I like it, and I really like Cal for short.

CarpetKnees · 19/05/2025 15:46

My first thought was Boxer shorts, but if it weren't for the instant connection with Calvin Klein, I think the sound of it isn't too bad. Esy to imagine a cool teen called Cal.

FluentRedPoet · 19/05/2025 15:48

My immediate thoughts were Klein and Calvanism. Just not a good idea methinks.

piscofrisco · 19/05/2025 17:09

I like it and I would think that most people under 30’s first connotation would be Calvin Harris which gives it some cool.

Firsttimebabymummy · 19/05/2025 20:17

I like it. I look after a Calvin at nursery and heard lots of compliments about it too.

I'd avoid if surname is a K though.

CrimsonVioletTeal · 19/05/2025 21:16

I like it, I'd assume you were church-going Protestant.
