What names are in your preschool setting? Any with duplicate names?!

Only duplicates here are Isabel and Oscar.

When my 17 year old was little there were a lot of boys called Lewis and Leo and when my 19 year old was little a lot of names from Harry Potter were popular.

Dancer777 · 18/05/2025 01:03

In my DS nursery room there hasn’t been a single duplicate name since he started there 3 years ago which I find quite surprising especially as nearly all are “normal” names.

In his wider circle of friends outside of nursery there are duplicates of Leo, Charlie, Emilia and Ottilie.

SummerIce · 18/05/2025 01:05

Boys: Rowan, Lucas, Finley, Oscar, Elias and Joshi (short for Joshua)

Girls: Ella, Matilda, Noa, Isabelle / Isabella, Isla

Multiples .. Oliver, Harriet, Freddy, Charlotte, Evie

OhHellolittleone · 18/05/2025 09:39

We have duplicates of Olivia.

We also know duplicates of Leo, Effie, Evie, Edward, Ada, William, Jude and Isobel.

Mauvehoodie · 18/05/2025 09:45

Dd is 4. The most common names we've encountered are Arthur, Freddie, Alfie and Arlo for boys and Elsie and Sophia for girls (girls names seem to have more variety for some reason). Other names at nursery are
David
Brody
Nathan
Charlie
Finlay

Valentina
Charlotte
Nia
Matilda
Erin
Bethany

Yerto · 18/05/2025 15:38

Reception - Only duplicates are Lily and Max.

We do know quite a few Oliver/Ollie, Theo, Charlie, Arthur and for girls Rosie, Grace/Gracie, Bonnie, Isla

Gundogday · 18/05/2025 15:40

Seen an increase in Alba and Penelope recently, plus hundreds of Teddies (babies and dogs!).

AllAroundMyGarden · 18/05/2025 15:43

Alfie, Theo, Hugo

Bella. I can’t think of any more girls’ names

1AngelicFruitCake · 18/05/2025 15:45

Oliver, Zac/Zach and Finley seem to be popular.
Teddy is really popular.

Ketryne · 18/05/2025 15:54

We’ve experienced very few duplicates in DS’s nursery years (he’s nearly 4) but across all baby classes, nursery and generally heard in the playground, the most common repeated names were Ada and Isla for girls and ‘o’ endings for boys (Theo, Leo etc. ) My son is a Finn, and we often hear children a few years older being called Finley, but haven’t met another Finn or Finley at his age.

Now with a new baby, I’m experiencing lots more Noahs at baby classes, plus Luca, and yet more Islas

If you are looking for something unique….I have delivered > 1 000 babies and never a John!

It’s really sad how John has reduced so much in the under 30’s - so not surprising you haven’t delivered one. Short, simple, classic and so many interesting historical namesakes, it would have been my top choice for a boy if there wasnt one already in the family.

JellyAnd · 18/05/2025 17:31

There are no duplicates in DS’s nursery class but the names I’m hearing a lot when you take everything into account- the reception class, swimming lessons, rugby tots, siblings, being yelled at the playground etc. etc. are Ottilie, Skye and Matilda for girls and Hugo, Louis and Freddie for boys.

clocktick · 18/05/2025 17:38

Around here, you are tripping over Judes and Teds.

Hazel, Maya and Margot are popular for girls. And Matilda.

Despite it being the top girls name for years, I’ve never come across an Olivia in the wild, and I’ve been to so many baby and toddler classes, it’s strange.

LegoLandslide · 18/05/2025 17:56

No duplicates amongst the girls but lots of nature names - Ivy, Rose, Rowan (m and f), Lily, Winter, Hazel, etc.

All the boys are called William.

DD is 3.

@khaa2091 Completely off topic but out of interest - how do you react if you think the name that parents have picked is awful? 😅

I just remember a midwife (not the one I had been looked after by) coming in not long after I’d delivered my DS and asking if we had named him yet. When I told her the name she responded with “Oh, that’s a lovely strong ‘proper’ boys name. I’ve delivered 2 poor kids called Fox this week and had to remind myself that I’m a midwife and not a vet!” 🫠
I couldn’t help but feel sorry for the poor parents of the kids and wondered how she’d reacted when they told her!

I find “cute” a useful word that covers a lot of situations…..
The only time I have said something was at the end of a weekend on call, when I told some new parents that this was the fifth Ruby I had been involved with in the previous 72 hours and they may wish to consider how many were likely to finish up in the same class!

Honestly … why on earth would you say that, even? You want your memories of having your baby to be positive!

Brbreeze · 18/05/2025 20:01

Loads of Noah’s, other than that no duplicates really stand out.

It was a conversation about a choice between 2 names, and I thought it was relevant to the decision making.

bzarda · 18/05/2025 20:08

I have a 2 year old and know lots of Freddies and Judes. My daughters ballet class also has 3 Mabels and 4 Willows! We know a lot of Lyras as well.

Moveoverdarlin · 18/05/2025 20:09

Common ones

Max
Harry
Freddie
Ruby
Isla
