Hey, I was pretty much set on calling our baby Darcie if it’s a girl. And my mother in law suggested Delilah which now I also love. ???

Well , you can’t sing along to Darcie ….

WWomble · 15/05/2025 16:54

Much prefer Delilah.

Iwon · 15/05/2025 16:59

Darcy.
But not Darcie.

PrincessOfPreschool · 15/05/2025 17:00

They're very different. What would you shorten Delilah to? It's a bit of a mouthful.

sesquipedalian · 15/05/2025 17:08

It never ceases to amaze me that people call their children Delilah - clearly they haven’t read the Bible! I quote the Encyclopaedia Britannica- “She was a Philistine who, bribed to entrap Samson, coaxed him into revealing that the secret of his strength was his long hair, whereupon she took advantage of his confidence to betray him to his enemies. Her name has since become synonymous with a voluptuous, treacherous woman.”

JohnTheRevelator · 15/05/2025 17:09

Personally I'd go with Darcie, but that's only because I think if I named my daughter Delilah, she'd be forever having people singing THAT song at her! And if you are familiar with the tale of Sampson and Delilah, you'd know that Delilah really wasn't very nice!

mysecretshame · 15/05/2025 17:13

You'll get a lot of "why why why ...?" if you go Delilah

CrownCoats · 15/05/2025 17:17

Darcy, not Darcie.

Probably the same people that would call their child Pandora!

Delilah is an awful name to call your daughter if you care about the meaning.

ginasevern · 15/05/2025 17:31

I personally love the name Delilah, Lilah for short. I equally hate the name Darcy. I've heard it screamed at seemingly every little girl on my council estate for the last 10 years. Darcayyyyy! So to me it's not only ubiquitous but quite frankly chavvy too.

Oldandcobwebby · 15/05/2025 17:32

D'Arcy (or possibly Darcy), not Darcie. She'd be spelling it out forever with that weird spelling.

YYYDlilah · 15/05/2025 17:41

Both are awful

Jackreacherstrousers · 15/05/2025 17:43

I like both but.......they are the names of 2 of my chickens!🤣

YYYDlilah · 15/05/2025 17:44

She'll be spelling D'Arcy out, and the ' will cause problems on forms. Darcy or Darcey are easier spellings.

soembarassing1 · 15/05/2025 18:04

We have both in our family, Delilah is my favourite. She’ll probably be a lilah when she’s older.

Moreteaandchocolate · 15/05/2025 18:46

I would choose Darcey (I like this spelling). I love Lilah on its own, if that’s an option? I can’t help singing why why why when I hear Delilah!

SwanOfThoseThings · 15/05/2025 18:59

Really don't like either but if I had to choose, Delilah.

WtafIsThat · 15/05/2025 20:11

Darcie is awful! So bored of Darcie-Mai, Darcy-Rose.

Nothing wrong with Delilah.

Firebird83 · 15/05/2025 22:53

Darcie is chavvy, sorry.

JDM625 · 15/05/2025 22:56

I know a D'Arcy, but he is a man! Never thought of it for a girl, but I prefer it to Delilah.
Any others you like OP?

ninjahamster · 15/05/2025 22:57

Delilah, absolutely love it.

Lapidarian · 15/05/2025 22:59

Gently, I’d think again.

Pemba · 15/05/2025 23:05

Delilah is lovely. So musical sounding.

Darcie doesn't really seem like a proper name, especially for a girl. It's a surname really, Darcy. It's over popular right now anyway.

YYYDlilah · 15/05/2025 23:07

It's that all right!

Why, why, why...

Headycloud · 16/05/2025 07:01

Why do people bother responding when they’re just being bitchy rather than constructive. There is such an air of patronising and condescension from so many on this thread.

I think both are lovely. My background is theology and I’d not associate Delilah with terrible connotations

i prefer Delilah but only at a push x
